Review- e.l.f. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen
I had such plans for this eyeliner! We were going to go everywhere together. We were going to be inseperable. Wherever you found my perfectly lined upper lids, it would be close at hand. But alas, as happens in all good love stories, it was not to be. For you see, the pen did not want to stay on my lids. I tried it many times, but to no avail. I thought I was doing something wrong like, perhaps, I had foundation on my lids, but no. It made no difference if the lids were freshly cleaned or if they had lotion on them. The line faded in no time flat, which practically broke my heart because I love e.l.f. products and this pen would have been so convenient for putting on eyeliner on the subway. If anyone out there has this pen and it stays on, please leave a comment and tell me the trick. I'm holding on to this eyeliner in case I learn some application trick that will keep it in place. But then, I'm a hopeless romantic at heart.

Review - Arbonne Intelligence Daily Moisturizing Cream, Night and Day
This lightweight moisturizer delivers as much, or as little, hydration a the skin needs, without feeling greasy or dry. 4.3oz #490 $38.50
Again refer to previous posts on how to order the Intelligence Line!
This cream, in my opinion what slightly too much for daytime use. I did use it day and night, and found that the end result really was beautiful, well tended and moisturized skin, but I found that I just really felt it during the day. Especially on hot days. My skin is pretty young, and a very light moisturizer does a fine job with it, so if you need a bit more in the moisture department don't rule it out! I wish that there was a slightly less intense moisturizer for those of us who don't necessarily need a ton of moisture. But again all in all I really liked the end effect of these combined products, so I guess I can let it slide. One of the nicest parts of this cream, other than the feeling it leaves you with after extended use, is that there really isn't any odor that I noticed. Maybe the answer is to use your SPF moisturizer during the day and this Daily Moisturizing Cream at night. That way your really covered and you don't have to worry about the sun!
Amanda S. Says: I was going to say something similar to the above, that the moisturizer was a bit too heavy for me. Then I had one of those cinematic style flashbacks to the winter where my face was peeling like a sick lizard and I was practically crying into my useless bottles of lotion. I believe, my dears, that is where THIS stuff comes in. Although during the hotter days of spring it seems to be a bit heavy for me, I realize that these days are fleeting, and a little extra moisture now (and during the dry times) will be just fine. I also imagine that this entire Arbonne Intelligence system we were given has a while sort of groove to it, and once you get into using them all together for some time, each product may very well balance the other out in some perfect finely tuned way. At least at this point, that's where it all seems to be going, and the results are awesome.
Movie Maven says:
As a lady with the sebaceous glands of a particularly sweaty 13-year-old girl, I can say right now that this is probably more moisturizer than I need. However - their claims that it would not make your skin feel greasy? Totally true! (And by this I mean no more greasy than my skin is on an average day.) I very rarely use moisturizer in the mornings, as a) I am very, very lazy and b) it tends to make my makeup slip off rather than help anything, so I really only used this stuff at night to start off with, and I agree with my colleagues that that's the ideal time to put this on. If you're a night showerer like me, just apply it after you step out and by the time you've dried your hair and changed into your jammies, your skin will be soft - but not greasy. That said, this is definitely a product for ladies with skin that's on the dry side, so be forewarned!

Review - Arbonne Intelligence Daily Eye Cream
refer to yesterdays post for ordering directions!
Can I just first off mention what a great price this eye cream is! 1/2 an oz. at many other places would set you back much more, especially for such an exceptional cream. I was really delighted with the results. I thought that this product alone was my stand out favorite, it is also the one that you can really tell is working all on it's lonesome as opposed to just being part of the party. It absorbs quickly, as advertised, and I thought really reduced the puffy look I sometimes get after a bad night's sleep. I am 24 and there really are not any fine-lines to report back on, but I will say the skin around my eyes feels really soothed, moisturized and happy. Another nice plus is the fact that my eyes never burned from run off, like at the gym or in the rain. This is actually a common problem for me with Eye Cream so I was really happy to find it blissfully absent. I will definitely repurchase this eye cream again, with or without the rest of the set!
Amanda S. Says: I too don't have any serious lines around my eyes, but as I have posted many times before, I rub my eyes senseless from having them get so tired reading and writing at work constantly. So the skin does get irritated and annoyed at me and dries out visibly after the harder days I have. Yesterday, sadly, was such a day, and I put this product to the test. I was really happy to see that my skin plumped up instantly, smoothed over, and all those teeny little itty bitty lines disappeared and my eyes looked fresh and awake for the rest of the night!

Review - Lancome Color Design Lipcolor
Dress your lips in new Color Design Lipcolor for full coverage, smooth hold and sensational effects in one coat. Creams, sheens, shimmers and metallics -- four modern finishes for custom lip styling. A range of 36 shades to create the perfect designer's palette for any lip tone.
So... I had a $50 gift card to Macy's, what's a completly obsessed girl to do? Buy some more beauty products obviously! Of course if Lancome is offering a free gift with purchase more's the better, right? Well in this case I was completely on the mark. I left the store with my new favoritest Primordiale Eye Skin Recharge (a review on that will be in a few weeks) but also a beautiful shade of their Color Design Lipcolor. There are currently a few of these Lipcolors floating around my beauty arsenel, so I figured... time to review! I have the colors "Visionary" and "Bloom" which are both Sheens. "Visionary" is this really pretty light bronze sort of color which looks great on my pale skin. "Bloom" is perfect for the lightest hint of red under a sheer gloss like my favorite Fresh Sugar Lip Gloss in Angel. These Lipcolors seem to last for hours (even after you eat!) and really moisturize my thirsty lips. Annnnndddd... the best part.... right now they are free if you go to the store. it looks like they are having a really fabulouse offer on their website though. Go here to check it out!
Review - Arbonne Intelligence Daily Balancer
This everyday balancer is formulated to effectively remove final traces of cleanser, without drying of upsetting the skin's essential moisture barrier. 6fl. oz #487; $22.50
This is another product that will not come up on the Arbonne website, to purchase use the product code when checking out, or just get the whole set + a complimentary Skin Conditioning Oil for $143.50 by using product code #725, so worth it!
I will be honest, it was really difficult for me to get a good read on this Balancer. We were sent those annoying foil packets of products, so while the other products I was able to use at least three to four times out of each packet (and we got five sets of packets!) I inevidably lost the contents to the back of the sink after one use with the Balancer. I will say that I thought when I used this product as well the entire experience was much nicer, my skin was much more pliant and it just felt really good. There was a very light flowery smell, but it really just helped keep the moisture in the skin and the extras away. From what I can tell, I really liked the way this product worked. It is very gentle, which is great for my sensitive skin. All in all the whole line was great, I love the way my skin looks after a few weeks of use, but I would reccomend getting the whole line as opposed to just one part.
Amanda S. Says: I'm starting to feel like Deedee and I are sharing the same Arbonne experience entirely! I too had trouble getting enough use out of the samples we were given, but I will try to give a fair read also. I have never really used any cleanser that was considered a 'balancer' but I figure, I can use all the balancing help I can get so why not? And I agree wholeheartedly with the above, from what I experienced, the tinge of irritation and redness I get after washing my face didn't happen today, whether or not that's a coincidence, I'm not 100% sure, but it's doubtful. I think this light airy balancer somehow told my skin to relax, and it did!

Review- Bioelements Urban Detox
For those of you who do not know, I live in New York City. I can't think of a better place to test a product like this. This isn't the kind of product that causes sudden improvements in your skin in a couple of uses. It's more the tortoise than the hare in that, in the long run, your skin will be glad you used it. This serum is jam-packed with anti-oxidants and is designed to fight free radicals before they damage your skin. And mind you, city dwellers aren't the only ones exposed to free radical causing elements. Besides pollution there is sun exposure, smoke and all kinds of dirt. I especially like the inclusion of vitamin E, one of the best environmental protection ingredients you can get. It is recommended for combination to very dry skin. The serum has a nice texture and it absorbs very well; it is worn under moisturizer and, of course, sunscreen. I'm happy that I have this product as NYC summers are a brutal combination of sun, heat and pollution. I don't know why, but the dirt in the air just seems to stick to one's skin more in summer. Although I never really considered adding a product like this to my daily regimen before, I will definitely be using this vitamin-rich serum from now on because, hey, you can never be too safe.
Amanda S. Says : I absolutely refuse to turn this blog into my full blown confessional (for the sake of EVERYONE, even the not-so-innocent), but let me just say that... Oh have I abused myself in the past. My skin, if it could, would probably leap off me and run. I was so excited when Hillary gave me a chance to try this, I'd seen it in a spa and wondered how well something like this would work with my usual regimen (which is heavy moisturizer and mineral make up), and I have to say, it went on unnoticed, not to say it was useless, but rather that it did not interfere or ruin my usual plans. Which I love, of course. The idea that, after mincing around the city for hours, days, weeks, years, exposing myself to all sorts of smog and dirt, I can protect myself a little better... Well that cheers me up. Because all that past abuse makes me a little guilty, and this makes that guilt a little less!

Review -Nutrimin C Re Day Crème with SPF 8
Protect, moisturize and visibly firm with Day Crème. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles $49.50 item #373
I used this only for the mosturizing and antiaging qualities. I havn't used an spf on face since Desert Storm. So having said that the creme is emollient and rich. I found it to absorb pretty quickly and it left my skin dewy and ready for the the rest of the arensal! I found that it really helped to keep the moisture in my skin throughout the day. My foundation never faultered or looked flakey while using. I also want to mention that the scent is strange, its not flowery or fruity! It's got a weird scent and it might just be the spf.. It works and it does a good job but if you are looking for a 2 in 1 then I really don't think this is it, I think that there needs to be more spf to help all beauties be protected!
Sheba says this Nutrimin C Re Day Crème with SPF 8 is a product that definitely moisturizes and keeps your skin feeling soft and smooth. Yes, I would prefer a higher spf but since just about everything I use does contain some I think I am well covered when I use this. I am not out in the sun with just this moisturizer on. I usually have much more of my cosmetic arsenal applied to my face. If I am going out to laze around I would definitely apply a product designed for protection and I use those that are well over 30 as I have damaged my skin in the sun in my past foolishness. I am usually very aware of strong scents or fragrances near my face yet I was not bothered by the scent to this product. As Cityslicker mentioned -- it is difficult to define but it is not unpleasant. It fades relatively fast. The moisture does not fade as my skin just soaks it up when I apply it and it stays nice and moist for the full day. If you are using this alone on your skin you will need to look for a higher spf but if you use other products with spf in conjunction with this -- you will be very happy.
Maria says: I have no problems with any product in the Nutrimin C line. I think it is a quality line, and long before I had the opportunity to review the products here on Beautifile, I had raved about the eyecream in this line on a different review board...I'll do that here under separate post. The Day Cream is very nice - light (a little too light for my dry skin, but with an added serum underneath it's fine) and carries with it an 8 SPF which is always a bonus, but in my experience, I need something a little more beefy in the SPF department. I didn't detect a real scent to the creme - more or less citrusy I'd say. This also does not make my foundation ball up like many other moisturizers out there, so again, another bonus. Again, I'd say the Nutrimin C line is my favorite of the Arbonne products - I am a repeat purchaser of the line and will continue to count on their products for a delivery system that works at a price that is refreshingly affordable.
Review- Arbonne NutriMin C REactivating Facial Serum Day & Night
REactivating Facial Serum Day & Night $49.00 Item#: 375
Increases moisture retention and cell proliferation day and night. Alpha and beta hydroxy acids reactivate healthy cell turnover, increasing translucence and glow while gently diminishing the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
This is by far my favorite product in the NutriMinC line. It's a great product that totally encourages deep hydration especially at night. I used this, coupled with the night creme and found that by using together my skin was very soft and plump every morning. It's the perfect just before bed treat for your face and neck. You won't be sorry you chose this. It's also a very competitive price. I think that $49 is very reasonable and in this financial time it's a product that you can still afford without breaking the bank! I also want to mention that it goes on and absorbs really quickly and almost feels like an almost invisible shield on my face.. I can feel a little something so I truly believe that this helps block in the moisture too!! Nice product! Thanks Susan!
Sheba says I also think this is one great product. It applies very easily and my skin just drinks it up immediately. I do use this along with the NutriMinC Night Creme during the night and I awake to a very nice feeling face and neck -- they remain moisturized and feel great. Many creams wear down or off during the night -- this one remains!! I use it in conjunction with the NutriminC Day Creme and the REpair Corrective Eye Creme for daytime use and get the same fabulous results. I think the cost is right there where the better Moisturizing products are and I don't mind spending a bit more on a product that works this well.
Maria says: It's a toss-up between the facial serum and eyecream for my favorite in the NutriminC line from Arbonne. Both are such awesome products. If I were an Arbonne rep, I could honestly look my clients in the eye and tell them they will NOT be sorry if they try this line. I love using this at night b/c when I wake up in the morning my face still looks plump and dewy and not all dry and nasty with no crepiness under the eyes. It sinks in like a dream too! I love applying this right after their toner - it's a great one-two punch. I feel like the toner draws the serum deeper into your skin. As I mentioned in another Arbonne review, I think the prices are extremely reasonable for these hightly effective products. I also think that they work synergistically with eachother - so you'd be doing yourself a favor to use the entire line as your regimen. My sister who never bothered with skincare went to an Arbonne demo and decided to try the whole entire Nutrimin line. When I saw her a few weeks ago, honestly - her skin looked AMAZING. My other sisters noticed it as well - and what did they do? They ordered the entire line! True story.
Hillary says: When reviewing a whole system of face care or body care products, it's so hard to nail down which product in the regimen is really making a difference, but with the NutriMin C line, I suspect this serum is the secret weapon. The insert in the package states that it imparts a "glow" and I really feel that is the best part of these products- the glow they give. I don't have many wrinkles so I can't attest to whether or not the REactivating Serum helps smooth them, but my skin does look very healthy and radiant. I recommend using the system as a whole, but if you could only get one product in the line, I'd say make it this one.
Review - Nailene Acrylic Strong Topcoat
Deedlejuse Says: I agree with Sheba on this Topcoat. For a very affordable price you will breath some (longer) life into your least expensive nail polishes. When I (the queen of not being able to wear nail polish) applied this top coat to my favorite polishes I found that I had about four or five days chip free, while normally I would have gotten maybe three. It applies evenly and pretty thinly, which I think is a definite bonus. It was also fast drying, which for me is an absolutly necessary feature to any nail polish! All in all everything I have tried from Nailine has been affordable, and very solid. Perhaps not top of the line, but solid. I would say anything you want to try from this will be good, and it won't break the bank!
Amanda S. Says: Wow. Why did I wait so long to try this? I have a FAVORITE color of super cheapo nail polish, I can't find an exact match for the color anywhere, and to my dismay, when I use it, it chips off within HOURS. I tried this topcoat and it lasted 5 days! (the 5th day was my own fault, I basically torture my hands!). This is definitely, seriously, undoubtedly the strongest top coat I have ever used. Others claim to work well, but the words don't pan out when they give up after a few days of abuse that I can dish out. I am going to stock up on this, it's amazing stuff.
Review - Luxtural Sophisticated Veil
Sophisticated Veil works to prevent your skin’s biggest challenge - premature aging. $186.00
This is the true diamond in the Luxtural line. I got a sample of this and I was trying to add water to get the last molecules out! This serum is rich and thick and really penetrated my skin. My skin with in a couple of day had a vibrant healthy glow that looked nourished and flush. I swear this is going to be Luxtural's big win product.. I wanted to jump off a bridge when I ran out.. Trust me your skin will feel so soft and hydrated you won't believe it!!
Maria says: You know you must love a product when you try to find a way to pry open the container and stick a q-tip in it to get the last drop...but, okay, guilty - that's what I tried to do with all three of the Luxtural products I received. I love quality serums and this IS a quality facial serum. You can just tell because your skin looks and feels happy. The serum just doesn't sit there on your skin - you feel like its doing its job - Uber soft, healthy, plump, delish! To keep it real (channeling my best Randy Jackson here) I know that a sample does not the best review make - but in the few applications that I did get out of it, I could safely say that I would reorder without hesitation if the pocketbook allowed. You will be hearing A LOT more about Luxtural.
Hillary says: I feel as if this serum should be put on after the moisturizer as it has the consistency of a great make-up primer. But I did as the directions said and put it under the moisturizer. This stuff is as smooth as silk going on and after a couple of days of using the Luxtural line, you'll notice a new-found clarity to your skin (not that I'm saying your skin is dull, but it's nice to get a little boost). Of the three parts to the Luxtural Skincare regimen, I'd have to say Sophisticated Veil is my favorite. It may be costly, but you are using such a small amount that it averages out to be not so expensive. Or even better, enter to win our Grand Prize this month- a 3 Piece Luxtural Skincare Kit valued at $414. If you could feel this serum on your skin, you would have already entered, I guarantee it!
Review - Arbonne Awaken Sea Salt Scrub
.
I was lucky enough to actually test out two of these.. I have the Awaken and the reactivate.. I got generous 5 oz tubs.. I do love a good body scrub and this is surely one to boast about.. They are both rich and thick upon application. If you are using in the shower turn off the water so nothing gets rinsed away and wasted. It's too precious to waste! I like to slather all over my body rinse then come back and shave the stems. It makes for the perfect shower shave and still leaves my skin SUPER soft and smooth. The scrub isn't rocky or rough.. It's a finely milled salt that really tackled all of my rough spots - knees, ankles & elbows.. I also really like to use on my hand to exfoliate the cuticles, the oils leave behind a really soft hand too..
The scents are nice blends.. They are both difficult for me to pull apart.. Awaken is a light floral with a little stronger undertone that I like but can't figure it out.. I am sorry my nose doesn't know. The Reactivate is a little stronger and smells like there is a little camphor in it with a touch of musk.. I also found that they don't leave my body all perfumey after use.. I don't have to use any body moisturizer after use either.. These are both worth the $28. I was able to get a couple of uses from each and I only have 5oz of each.. You'll love the lightness of the oil and how your body feels enveloped in softness after use..
Sheba says I have been using the Arbonne Awaken Sea Salt Scrub for over a week now and I love it. I totally agree with City Slicker that it is impossible to describe the actual fragrance to the Awaken. It does have a light floral scent -- but do not ask me what flower!! It is light enough that it does not overpower you and it fades away in time for you to use your choice of scent for the day. The scrub is very gentle - yet effective. My elbows, and other rough areas actually feel nice and smooth when I am done. They are not red or irritated as some scrubs have left them. My skin feels very soft and moisturized when I am done. I am betting that I could do without moisturizer after use -- but I do put a light application on. Now that winter seems to finally be leaving us -- I may not feel the need to apply the moisturizer after using this scrub. This winter has taken its toll on my skin and I can use all the moisture that I can get for now. I know I am frugal -- but I have been using this one jar for over a week and I still have a little left. I know I am using enough as my skin is luminous and feels terrific. This is a great find!!
Amanda S. Says: What a beautiful product! My skin is a silly flaky mess from the winter, like Sheba said, and this product helped resuscitate me from the brink of horror. Unlike some scrubs, the texture is near perfect, I had no fear of shredding myself a little too much, and it wasn't too meek either (which is so depressing, when you shell out for a scrub and it scrubs NOTHING at all, you know?). It smells delicious and as I'm typing this, I'm wondering why I'm not languishing in the bath using it again. I've actually just bought this to give to a friend for her birthday, that's how much I love it, sincerely.
Deedlejuse Says: Umm, I guess me four! I really enjoyed trying these body scrubs. I found them much richer than normal body scrubs. I don't know what kind of oil they use in this scrub, but whatever it is they should bottle it and sell it without the sea salt! Although the scrubs should be available too, it's just that the oil is scrumptious! I enjoyed both scents, but have to say I love the Reactivate more than the awaken, I didn't notice any camphor like Cityslicker did, only a really lovely ambery relaxing scent. This scrub has made quick work of scruffing off all the bumps and flakes the winter has caused. I love it, and will definitely repurchase this wonderful scrub.
Maria says: I truly don't know what more raves I can add for this product. It is all what the girls say above. I first tried this product at a demo at my sister's house and the Arbonne rep brought each of us over to the sink, applied the Awaken scrub, rubbed it in then rinsed it off of our arms. I swear, none of us could stop touching our arms the entire night - my WORD but were they soft! Plus the fragrance...it's a DREAM. Did I buy it that night? Well, DUH??? Of COURSE I did! I love it. Love this scrub - probably one of the best I've used. Bonus for me, b/c I still had my HUGE tub of it from when I ordered it from the demo I was at - but now I've got a brand new one for when my tub runs out. YEA! It is a great exfoliator as well - put a little on your loofah and have a field day - such soft, touchable, loveable skin, with no ouchies like some other scrubs might have. Really, sincerely, Arbonne nailed it with these scrubs. A must, must try.
Hillary says: I didn't read these rave reviews above before I used my scrub (Awaken) so I had a really pleasant surprise on my hands (elbows, legs- you get the picture). When Arbonne says "scrub" they really mean it. I don't think there was a dry, dull patch left in my county, nevermind on myself. And the fragrance is divine. It reminds me a lot of the scent of Fresh's Sugar Scrub but at half the price. I also had anticipated having to clean the tub for an hour due to how rich in oils this scrub is, but I'm happy to report it didn't make my tub slippery at all (and I'm not really sure how that happened). That fact alone makes me want to use it every time I shower. I recommend getting a loofah or a mitt like Maria said because I was using my hand and I know I was wasting more than I cared to. I want to use this container for all it's worth. It's just that good.
Review - Arbonne NutriMinC® RE9® Face Corrective Eye Crème
Visible firming, moisturizing and corrective benefits that are so immediate, you won’t believe your eyes! Reduces the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, while beneficial RE9 elements are transported to protect and repair the delicate tissue around the eye. ( .60 oz./17 g )
Price: $49.00
I was very pleasantly surprised by the results when using this Arbonne NutriMinC® RE9® Face Corrective Eye Crème. Most products make claims that can be somewhat true -- but the claims for Arbonne NutriMinC® RE9® Face Corrective Eye Crème worked for me. I did see almost immediate improvements in my eye areas. The darker undereye area seems to lighten up and the puffiness was much less visible. The skin, itself, felt more toned and it looks better after a few days. I have had problems arise from other eye products but this Arbonne NutriMinC® RE9® Face Corrective Eye Crème caused no discomfort at all -- and performed miraculously. Some improvements seemed immediate while others slowly became noticeable. The price seems to be right in the range for Eye Creams that really work!!
CitySlicker Says: This is a really nice hydrating eye cream. I have used all of my samples which lasted about 3 weeks using once a day in the morning. I found that after application it absorbs quickly and helps to contour and smooth the eye area. I also believe that it really helped keep my foundation & concealer looking fresh and dewy.. There is no perfumy scent so that is a huge plus in my book, I want the ingredients that help my skin not smell good.. The entire NutriminC lines is great and works really well all together!
Maria says: Here's a review of this wonderful eyecream that I did back in October of 2007:
"Probably the best eyecream I've ever used. Talk about being skeptical when I had my arm twisted to go to an Arbonne demo! I went kicking and screaming b/c I thought Arbonne was more hype than a skincare line that would actually do something for me. Boy, was I surprised at how much I loved this eyecream and I have tried a lot of them out there. It's got all the right "stuff" - a lovely hydrating effect that lasts throughout the day, no clashes with concealer/makeup, and a very light fresh scent. It is a winner. I have just ordered my fourth bottle. I have stopped looking for THE one. Found it! : )"
So as you can see, I have been raving about this eyecream for a long time...and still nearly two years later, I'm still using it. Why mess with a good thing? It works. It's a dream of an eyecream. It DOES depuff, it DOES hydrate, it DOES work. All you have to do now is go and get yourself some! Five-star love for this eyecream.
Hillary says: I have a love-hate relationship with this eye cream. Some days I find it simply moisturizing and refreshing. Other days, it stings. I haven't figured out completely why this happens, but I suspect it's according to how dry my eye skin is. If it's super-dry, I feel a slight sting. But that's not to say I dislike this cream. I think it's a nice, emollient cream that lasts all night when you put it on before bed. And the miniscule amount you need to use makes it SO economical! I used the same tiny sample for a week! I can only imagine how long a jar would last. Definitely give it a try.Review - Arbonne NutriMinC REcover Night Crème
Review - Strange Invisible Perfume
Crisp, aquatic notes of wild roses brighten a warm sea of marjoram and sandalwood. A floral perfume for both sexes, this aquarian elixir boasts the relevance of rose in contemporary perfumery and on the skin of men.
Provenance: rose returns but this time on its own terms. True to its roots and wild with thorns, it is poised to enlighten the senses and perfume a new era.
Perfume is a thing I associate with sexy, mildly trashy elegance, like Maggie the Cat dabbing a bit of perfume on her wrist before Brick comes home, in one last desperate attempt to get him to love her the way she needs to be loved. Wearing perfume makes me feel particularly fancy, and I'm not the kind of girl with a "signature scent," which means I get to mix it up a lot. This Strange Invisible Perfume in Aquarian Roses is just the kind of thing I would wear if I were a past-her-prime, yet still totally sexy, Southern belle, trapped in a loveless marriage with a super-hot drunk. It's old-fashioned, but playful. It's warm, but not overbearing. It's feminine, but not sweet. And the fact that Strange Invisible (weirdest name for a perfume company ever?) touts it as a unisex fragrance should give you some idea about the scent - not quite a man's, not quite a woman's, but able to magnify the femininity or masculinity of the wearer. I quite like it, actually. And I think Liz Taylor would approve.
Deedlejuse Says:
Movie Maven! Such a picture you paint....
Perfume is kind of my life. My job is to create all natural perfumes for people and to help them find a fragrance that fits their personality. So, as you can imagine I am super head-strong and opinionated about scents, so take my review with a grain of salt!
This company's motivation and "green mission" is quite commendable, and interesting. It seems as though the perfumer Alexandra Balahoutis knows quite a lot about scents and will create you a custom perfume after you sip floral infused waters to see which flowers resonate most strongly with you. Interesting. My biggest problem with Aquarian Roses is that I don't like the way it smells, I can't imagine recommending it to a man, and after wearing it myself I really couldn't pick it up after about a half hour. It smells basically like Moroccan Rose Oil, a very sour bitter smell with some sandalwood. I am a true admirer of Rose fragrances, but I just don't think it is worth $210 for 1/4 Oz. of parfume and $175 for 1.7 Oz. of eau de parfume. If you are interested in this fragrance I strongly recommend trying the $5 sample before jumping in with both feet, unless you can gamble with that amount of dough! Some of their other fragrances sound scrumptious though, maybe trying a few samples to find your perfect fragrance is wise. Of course if you are in the area and can just go in and play that would be the best option.....
Sheba says this Strange Invisible Perfume in Aquarian Roses is definitly different from the fragrances I am usually drawn to. After Movie Maven's review -- I can see it with Maggie (Liz Taylor) in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'. I think it would fit her personality. I found that it did stay with me for a while which did NOT happen with Deedlejuse. It is so difficult to describe a fragrance -- especially one that you are not really used to. I will say that it was not overpowering. However, I have to be honest and this is a very nice fragrance but it is just not for me. I bet it would be just the scent a lot of people are looking for. So try the $5 sample as Deedlejuse suggests before investing the total price. Just be sure before you dig down deep. I think most of use do that anyway -- you really have to try a scent before plunking down your hard earned $.
Recently I have been using the Strange Invisible Perfume in Epic Gardenia and usually I am not a Gardenia fan. However, I want to mention that I have received many complements on this fragrance. I was afraid I might have put too much on to cause as many complements but friends I trust said NO -- it is just lovely. Sometimes I think Gardenia is too strong on its own and that is partly why I am not a big fan. I did not think this was as overpowering as many other Gardenia fragrances that I have used but was nervous at first due to the many complements. Now, I know it is the scent and not the strength. I am not in the perfume business so it is just about impossible for me to describe the various undertones, etc. I just know this is a very nice Gardenia that stayed with me but was not too strong. Once again, I would suggest that you try the sample before plunking down the full price. Make sure it is for you -- believe me, this is for many of us!!
CitySlicker Says: If you have any experience with Gardenia then you know it's not a subtle flower. it's full of life and lots of fragrance. This scent rich and has a lot of aroma on my skin. It's thick when I first apply but totally lasts throughout the day and is still going strong by the evening. If you like Gardenia you will love this and if you don't then it's not for you.. Epic Gardenia is a lovely feminine floral that stands up to it's name
Maria says: I too received a sample of Epic Gardenia and to be 100% honest, I had decided even before trying that I would not love it. I am no fan of anything floral. Ever. However...this little bottle kind of sets a different bar for the very unique notes of Gardenia. The drydown for me was much better than the first few minutes of application where I thought "uh oh, this is not for me". The drydown gives a subtle floral that is not overpowering or overwhelming. If you are a fan of Gardenia, then this will surely be a great addition to your perfume collection - It is unique and lovely and perfect for this time of year.
Amanda S. Says: Well well well, look how much everyone likes this stuff, huh? It certainly is a unique name, that's for sure. When I first saw it I thought, is this a typo??? But alas, it's as unique as the scent. As far as I know, you can't actually extract scent from the real lily of the valley flower, so I am guessing this is a very good interpretation of the actual scent. I hadn't imagined that if captured, it would be something I'd be drawn to, considering that most of my scents are dark and more heavy than lily. But having been handed this, and feeling obligated to give it a try, I find it's in my top three favorites for this summer! I'm told on me, it doesn't smell very lily-ish at all, but it does have a nice green scent. I have read in a few spots that people couldn't notice a dry down difference, but the scent adjusted to me very differently than to a friend I dabbed it on. Both times, very interesting. I highly recommend this scent as a gift for someone because I haven't found anyone it doesn't meld well with.

Review - Luxtural Silk Premonition
Silk Premonition is extremely effective at giving your skin both the benefit of LUXTURAL™’s long lasting, deep hydration properties, and its highly advanced anti-aging benefits.
Now, I got a sample of this. It's a very nice emolient moisturizer that kept my skin moisturized and definitely assisted in keep my foundation and powder in place. I experienced no flaking or riding in the little line. This silk premonition locks in moisture and seal the face but still allows it to breathe and feel healthy.. These samples just ran out to fast.. There was little to no scent so that is a huge plus. I ended up scraping the inside of the bottle on this one too.. I am sick! I need help but when you get a good thing you just don't want it to end. I highly recommend checking out the Luxtural Line!
Hillary says: Unfortunately for me, my sample jammed halfway through, so I didn't get to use all of the product inside (believe me, I tried). My impression from what I did use is that this is a light feeling, non-oily moisturizer that delivers a big payoff in moisturization. I had no problem with flakes or dry spots during the few days I used this product. Of course for day, you must add your own sunscreen to it, but I feel it is totally worth having to do an extra step as this face lotion can be described in no better way than "luxurious".
Review - Luxtural Mystique Fountain
One word.... FABULOUS!!! I love this stuff. It's refreshing & hydrating.. I got a sample sized container that resembles a pen.. I have emptied the container and am praying for more.. I used this on my freshly cleaned skin before moisturizer and sunscreen. It feels great, dries down and my face felt plump and hydrated. I swear that applying this way really locks in the moisture for all day benefits. I also used it over my makeup to boost the look and definitely woke up my makeup and gave it the freshly applied look at the end of the day... Luxtural is a delicious line!
Sheba says we know that Cityslicker loves to go heavy with her products -- she often mentions it. I, on the other hand, am very frugal with mine. Yet, I have to say I got the same results with my Luxtural's Mystique Fountain, Luxtural's Sophisticate Veil, and Luxtural's Silk Premonition. I have been using them for over a week now and can really feel the difference in my silky smooth but definitely moistened skin. I believe I can see the difference in the appearance of some fine lines being less noticeable. Personally, I don't know why they call them fine lines. We don't want them -- they are not fine with us. So anything that diminishes their appearance is truly the FINE thing and Luxtural is really FINE. The cost is about where I would expect to find Fine products like Luxtural and it should be considered an investment in our faces.
Maria says: Two words: In LOVE. Yup. Two big thumbs up to Luxtural for what is truly a mystical experience indeed. INSTANT hydration - instantly better feeling skin. I've had this little pen in my purse and I maybe have one or two more spritzes and I'm bumming BIG time. It was so unseasonably warm here the past couple of days and I found myself spritzing myself with it any chance I could. That's probably why I ran out so quickly. Applied over your makeup, it just gives a slightly dewy look that dries down to a perfect fresh face. Absolutely NO reaction to this spray. The line is truly luxurious and is going places. I can see this line becoming a big lemming for me. I better start saving now!
Hillary says: I decided to put this product to the ultimate test- I used it on the plane to and from Ireland (6 hour flights). Ordinarily after I fly my face is as dry as the Sahara with flakes galore. Not this time. The best part is although it imparted a lot of moisture, it didn't ruin my makeup, even my non-waterproof mascara. It also smells wonderful, but not overpowering. I don't think that there can be that much fragrance in it or it would have bothered my allergies. The only problem with this mist is as Maria said- addiction. I must have sprayed myself 100 times (ok, the sample I got doesn't hold 100 sprays but I like to exagerate). Unlike spraying with puified water, this does not make your face feel tighter as it dries, it does the exact opposite, leaving your face feel like you slathered on a cream not just spritzed with a mist. Although they only have 3 products so far, I'm expecting a lot of buzz about Luxtural in the coming months.

Review - Arbonne Intelligence Exfoliating Masque with Thermal Fusion
This is the second step in the Arbonne Intelligence 5 Step system, like I said before this product is not on the website, so you will need to use the product number above. I will say again that I think these products work best together and they are offered plus an extra bonus Skin Conditioning Oil for $143.50, use product number 725, so worth it!
This Exfoliating masque does not specify whether they think you should use it every day on the sample I received, but I know my skin so I used it once a week, and it worked like a charm. I will say there is an interesting warming sensation, that paired with the exfoliating beads really left my face feeling squeaky clean. It would have been too abrasive for me if it wasn't paired with the next steps in the line. I have sensitive skin so I think almost any exfoliating masque I have used creates the same sensation. The eye and face creams gave me back the "moisture barrier" I think is the term they used, and I totally agree with it! I would say this was my least favorite part of the 5 step process, but most anything "exfoliating" is for me. All in all it left my skin without the dryness and flakes that it was left with in patches from the winter, and really made me glow. Well ok, at first I just got really red, but after that fades you really glow! Just make sure you immediately use your Daily Moisturizing Cream!
Amanda S. Says: What's my real problem with this product? Well, I only have one. And that problem is: I don't have enough of it. Sadly, poor poor Amanda only has about 8 applications of the product and desires, truly, about 1,000,000 more. What's a girl to do? I got a little freaked out when I felt this product heating up, but it works so well and feels so cool and different than other masques that I got over it quickly to realize the benefits. My skin looks absolutely awesome after using it 4 times. I didn't have any redness or irritation (but my skin generally reacts calmly to exfoliating products), and it works so well with the other items in the group I have (the daily cleanser, the balancer, eye cream and moisturizing day & night cream). It's quite a system to use, and the benefits have been obvious really only after less than 2 weeks of use.

Review - Arbonne Intelligence Daily Cleanser
A non-drying cleanser that easliy removes dirt & oil without stripping skin of it's vital moisture barrier.
4.3 fl/127ml Product #486 $22.5
The next few products by Arbonne are absolutely wonderful, and have left my 24 year old skin happy and radiant, but..... They are not on the website we have been given to purchase through! Very strange, but I think all one has to do to order is use the product number above. Sorry to make it difficult, but this line is totally worth it!
The Intelligence Line from Arbonne is really wonderful. Like stated above I am 24 years old, I do not get pimples very often, my skin can be on the sensitive side but not terribly so, and I can get quite dry, although I would say I am normal. This cleanser is quite gentle and has never left me irritated. You only need a little drop, a little goes a long way. It does not foam, but just gently cleanses skin and rinses clean. When I used the Balancing toner in step 3 I didn't find that the cotton ever had any dirt or oil left behind. My skin looks beautiful and healthy, although I believe it is a combination of all five products. When I tried this cleanser without the remaining steps I found it mildly drying, so I will reccomend you try the Arbonne Smart Intelligence Set (Item # 725) it comes with all five products we will be reviewing plus Arbonne Intelligence Skin Conditioning Oil for free! It is $143.50 for the whole set, and so completely worth it!
Amanda S. Says: I can use a lot of products willy-nilly on my skin and not have problems. But my biggest arch-nemesis is cleansers. If I use the wrong one, I pay the price, big time. Some cleansers don't work at all, then I break out or feel greasy, have left over make up all over me and feel heavy-skinned and gross. Others clean so well that I am depleted of all moisture of my face and feel pinched up and icky. I like this daily cleanser because it did neither. I had a TON of make up on too the first time I gave it a whirl and it all came off beaitifully without stripping me bare of every human essence I had previously had. It has a nice clean feel to it and even when I used it three times in one day (morning, post-bike ride, and evening) my skin was soft and happy.
Review - Nailene China Doll Decals
*No disrespect to Jersey strippers. I know you ladies need to make a dollar.
Amanda S. Says: Oh hey everyone, sorry I didn't post sooner, but I was busy sticking these things all over my nails and feeling awesome. Totally cheesy, probably socially unacceptable and a little stereotypical, but whatever. They're CUTE and I have had to turn away 3 friends who have wanted badly to have china dolls stuck on their fingers. NO, these dolls are only for me. This really is the 2009 equivalent of the bedazzler. Which to be totally honest, I really wanted back in the day, to bedazzle my fringe jacket (which I wore with my acid wash jeans, unironically). Using these decals was sort of like wearing my Metallica "Master of Puppets" shirt. I mean you love it, other people may not get it, but sometimes you have to have china doll fingers.
CitySlicker says: They are really cute, super easy to apply and look cute on my nails. I used the little flowers and thought they were the most appropriate for me.. I put them on a clean nail and then put clear polish on over.. Those puppies stayed for for a while and were protected from all the harm of the keyboard and normal wear and tear.. They really a fun inexpensive addition to making your nail look cool!
Hillary says: I have a collection of nail decals which I bust out every so often, but none of the are as easy to use as these. My other decals have to be immersed in water then you slide the decal off & place it. However, the decals are paper thin and it's really easy to tear them while trying to apply them. These decals from Nailene, in addition to being adorable, are a breeze to apply. At first I messed up because I didn't let my nails dry completely before applying the decals and they turned up at the edges. I wrote the company who supplied them to us and they informed me what I was doing wrong. After that is was smooth sailing. And these suckers last! I actually had a nail where all the polish around the decal chipped, but the decal & polish under it were still intact. I know lots of ladies have switched from getting salon manicures to DIY manicures and if you love to get pictures on your nails and thought that you'd have to give that up because you are now doing your nails yourself- don't fret. There are several styles of Nailene Bedazzle Nail Decals to choose from and honestly, no one will ever know that they were stuck on rather than painted on. And at $3.99 for 4 sheets, you can have it all for practically nothing!
Review - Nailene French Manicure Kit
Deedlejuse Says: I am no master of application I will be the first to say. In fact when Hillary was deciding who to give what she decided to give me the "harder" kind because I would only be using it on my toes, so it would be easier than hands. I'm not sure that I actually did it the way your supposed to, I applied the tips to the top of my nails (because they are rather short) painted the pink and then inched on the tips once I took the white sticky paper off. On my hands! I feel like a grown-up doing my own French Manicure and having it turn out fabulously! On the first try! I know lots of excitement there, but seriously it was super easy, stayed a good three to four days without too much chip-age. Of course after they started to go they really fell off the deep end, it all had to be removed, but I will say I was impressed with how long it stayed for me (I am the notoriously hard on the nails girl.) My only complaint is that I really didn't like the irridecence of the pink. I would much prefer the opaque pink that is what I think of as the classic French Manicure. All in all however I really liked this product, and I am absolutly amazed that I was able to apply with such ease, even on the first try!

Review - e.l.f. Translucent Matifying Powder
I am not the type to use Matifying Powder generally. I usually like to look shiny and glimmery, but I got this Translucent Matifying Powder by e.l.f. and I cannot rave enough! It is so convenient, a very slim compact that fits perfectly into my rather small carry case. It provides a really nice big mirror, as well as some very useful powder that really covers up probem areas and stays put for the long haul. I have to say for three huge dollars I'd be sold even if I didn't love it, but I do love it so it is one of my favorite new finds of the month. I will be carrying this with me everywhere, and will definielty be re-purchasing in the not-so-distant future. There will also be some excited telephone calls to my similarly pale sister who has been spending much more on Shesido and Clinique. This I think is not only comprable, but might work better. Huge fan, not only of the powder, the line, the price, and the fact that it is animal cruelty free!! Really can you ask for more?

Review - Tresemme 24 Hour Body Weightless Creme
Tames flyaways and gently adds lift to your hair for natural, beautiful volume.
This is one of the nicest weightless cremes I have used recently, and I am a sucker for the pretty packaging of the much pricier brands. This not only costs next to nothing, you really don't have to use a whole lot, and even when I got up too late to wash and style it kept my hair smooth, full of body, and smelling fresh through the second day. I really can't say enough about it, or the brand. I actually have been using the Tresemme Full Body shampoo and conditioner and I couldn't be happier with that either. Honestly, I think this creme could conceivably do a little more in the volume department, but otherwise this is a perfect ten!

Review- Highlights @ Arrojo Studio SOHO NYC
That hair you are looking at with the gorgeous brown tones and not a hint of blonde is on my head and I'm loving it! Let me explain- you see, when you get highlights, everyone assumes that you want to go blonder. As with me, that is not always the case. I want a brown close enough to my own so that when it starts to grow in it's not that obvious. Why get highlights at all you might ask? Well my answer is a four letter word- gray! It happens to the best of us eventually. Anyway I went to see Kelly at Arrojo Studio to get rid of those blasted hairs that remind me of my age.
To be honest, I had never heard of Arrojo until recently, then when I did, I was hearing about it everywhere. They are some major heavy hitters on NY's hair front. When their PR person offered to let me review the salon I jumped at the chance.
First impression- the place is huge (it even has a café in it!) and it runs like a well oiled machine. I was treated like someone special from the moment I walked in the door. I don't believe that this was due to the fact I was there to do a review, I think everyone who visits the salon gets "A-List" treatment. I met my colorist Kelly and we immediately hit it off in both the personality & hair departments. I told her I wanted my highlights more brown so that re-growth wouldn't be so obvious. She used about 5 different colors to do my highlights and lowlights which initially made me a little nervous. But let me tell you- the result is fantastic. My hair looks so natural but with the kind of highlights you usually only see in children's hair. My hair only better. The end product showed she really listened to what I was looking for because she went beyond what I pictured to something much better. As an added bonus, Kelly is a funny, genuine person which made the fact that the color took 3 1/2 hours much more bearable. This is no quick fix filling station. I guess it takes extra time to get highlights so perfect.
Overall I am so happy with my hair color. I especially recommend Kelly, but using her as a barometer I would recommend visiting Arrojo Studio in a heartbeat. If you are in or near NYC for whatever reason, it's definitely worth it to treat yourself to great hair color.
Review - Maybelline Lash Stiletto Ultimate Length Mascara
Ophthalmologist tested / Contact lens safe $7.49
Here is a mascara that really does lengthen my lashes. It give me the really long thin lashes. I really like the look. The brush is really long so you can grab just about the entire upper lashes with only a tiny bit to apply on the inside. It does deliver s shiny look which I am not used to, they seem glossy with is pretty darn striking. Also have to comment on the easy to remove, a little eye makeup remover and it's gone. I wear contact and can vouch for the ability to wear without any irritations too. I have been wearing daily and I do notice that off and on I do see a flake here and there so beware of that. I have used many others that start flaking when it dries down.. This is a really nice product at a great price point!
Amanda S. Says: OK. OK people listen up, my favorite mascaras have been booted down a notch. I have posted before (and I will undoubtedly post again) that out of all the beauties on this site, I am the most ridiculously horrible at applying make up and making it work. Although I love the stuff, I'm messy and always have trouble applying mascara, it smudges, it's all over my face, I look like a panda and my lashes are clumped up and sticking out all over the place. But the Lash Stiletto was REALLY easy to apply, I'm not sure if it was the applicator or the thickness of the product, but it didn't go on all heavy and clump up on me, and when I do my unmistakable eye rubbing, it didn't smear off everywhere either. My lashes looked much longer than usual, it stayed all day.. and oh yea, this is at least $20 cheaper than the mascara I usually use. GET IT!
Deedlejuse Says: Yes! To Lash Stiletto! really anything by Maybelline is pretty darn good, and for cheap, but this is quickly topping my all time favorites list as well. I didn't notice any of the flaking that Cityslicker mentioned, but I might have just not noticed... My favorite part, if you really can pinpoint one is the very cool spiky look this mascara gives your lashes, seriously the reason they call it Stiletto is because that's the illusion it gives your eyes! I prefer to use this at night or when trying to look super posh and glamorous, because it really will draw a lot of attention to the eyes. I also thought that the removal process was awesome, one of my biggest complaints with some mascaras is that it just won't come off without a fight, this really just wipes clean super-easily. I really like this stuff and totally second Amanda S's GET IT!
Maria says: Back in the day, if I was purchasing a mascara at a drug store, it was always a Maybelline one. Always. To me, they always had a formula that did right by my stick-straight light colored lashes. Funny, the one mascara I HATED by Maybelline seems to be THE be-all-end-all for models and the like - you know the one I'm talking about in the pink and green tube. Great Lash. My all time fave Maybelline mascara was discontinued. Illegal Lengths was its name, and no one was more bummed than me when that little jewel went away...so I moved on to L'Oreal...quickly moved on....have settled (and loved) for the past year and a half the big fatty orange tube by Covergirl, so when Lash Stiletto came my way, I was all: "I'm not going to like this". But....I do. Surprise. This sort of reminds me of what Illegal Lengths did - but with more glossiness, and I'm thinking more length. I get no real volume to speak of, which I like, but if you're looking for length...then, yes, LS might just be your ticket. I doesn't irritate my contact-lens wearing eyes, it's pretty easy to remove, and it's not smudgy on my lower lashes. It's rather a glamorous mascara actually...I'm glad I got a chance to try it, because to be honest, I bet I would have never bought into the hype. I'll keep test driving and will come in for an update, but for now - a healthy thumbs up for Lash Stiletto.
Hillary says: Is it me or are drugstore mascaras getting better and better? This one from Maybelline sets out to raise the bar and acheives it. My lashes look long, thick and (very importantly) separated. So often with this kind of length you get what looks like three long eyelashes as all your lashes have fused into mega-lashes (and not in a good way). Not so with this puppy. The odd part is that looking at the brush I wouldn't have anticipated anything special as the only difference I can see is more bristles than usual. Those extra bristles really do coat the lashes and separate at the same time. This product is more about length than volume, but it's no slouch about thickening your lashes. This is a great mascara for a great price.
