Review- White Sands Liquid Texture Firm Hold

Imagine a really firm hairspray that can hold curls and waves without any of the stickiness...that pretty much sums up my experience with the White Sands Liquid Texture styling spray. It is recommended to be used on dry hair either as a working spray or before styling in conjunction with flat and curling irons or blow dryers. Some days, when I'm in a super rush, I'll spritz the White Sands Liquid Texture on my hair and put it up in a loose bun while getting ready. As a result, my hair has more volume and a soft waviness to it, yet still looks and feels natural. I could even brush through my hair and re-style if needed without interfering with the actual body and movement of my hair. I like that it holds up well without flaking or making my hair feel heavier or look matted. It's definitely a nice tool to have if you like creating body and texture, but don't like the feel of hair products. Also if you're like me and need something quick and low-maintenance, but has lasting and soft results.

First of all: just forget the name of this hairspray. It's really, really stupid. Are you trying to be cool, Rusk? W8less? Did you run out of space on the can? Are you trying to sound XTREME? It's not working. What IS working (see what I did there?) is this hairspray!! It is great. I recently got BANGS (you guys, I love having bangs) and I need to use a little bit of spray to keep them under control. "Just use a little aerosol spray," said my stylist. "It won't hurt the polar bears that bad, will it?" So I spritz a little of this stuff on the fringe and all over to keep it smooth. It smells inoffensive (which I think is as good as you can hope for with hairspray), and works great, and comes in a big can that looks cool instead of tacky like AquaNet. (Although let's be real, that AquaNet can is kind of awesome.) Try this! It's great! Just pretend it's called "Weightless" (which it is) instead of "w8less."

Review- Brocato Shimmer Platinum Spray

If you haven't been able to achieve that perfect, lustrous shine you see on models in hair commercials, you can at least fake it with Brocato Shimmer Platinum Spray. After styling your hair, just mist on a little bit of this spray, and not only will it provide light hold to keep your do in place, it adds a very subtle, sexy shine to your locks. It looks especially gorgeous when the light catches your hair and the little platinum sparks just glow like tiny stars in your hair. I'm not a big fan of hairspray, but as they go this formula was just fine, and the shimmery effect was simply gorgeous. You can also spray it on your skin, but its a tad sticky when used this way. Overall its an amazing way to add an extra special touch to your look for a fun night out on the town.

Review - Nick Chavez Volumizing Hairspray

Sometimes I think maybe I was a Texan pageant contestant in another life. I love sparkly dresses and fake eyelashes and big, big hair. So, Texan pageant contestant or drag queen, possibly. In any event, none of these things are really suitable for everyday life, so I have to make do with quotidian alternatives. Sparkly dress? No, just a really insane necklace. Fake eyelashes? No, but I will pile on that mascara, child. And big, big hair? Well...that I do try to get. My poker-straight hair loves to just lay limply on my head like overcooked fetuccine, so I do what I can to get it to fluff up. This Nick Chavez Volumizing Hairspray certainly helps. Now, I know it looks like it might be a fancier version of the infamous AquaNet (which, truth be told, I ain't mad at), but trust: this stuff is much, much better. It will provide volume without all the sticky ickiness of that classic purple can. It's not the best at holding, however, so if you're using this for an updo, you might be better off with something more intense. For adding fluff to your regular style, though, it's great. So if you're a Texan pageant queen, a drag queen, or just the queen of your own domain, try this stuff out.

Malikah says: I've never actually used a volumizing hairspray so I wasn't quite sure to do with it. Other than holding an updo in place I never wondered what else hair spray was capable of. It did do a decent job at boosting the volume in my hair, especially if I used it along with my curling iron. But it pretty much had zero hold, while my curls were full and bouncy post-styling, they pretty much fell flat in a few hours.

Review- Prive Finishing Texture Spray

I tend to have hair that likes to hang flat and limp, like an overcooked piece of linguine hanging off the side of a cooking pot. For this reason, I am fond of two things: a) teasing my hair within an inch of its life* and b) looking for new products that might help me "fluff up" my lank 'do. This Prive Finishing Texture Spray (Herbal Blend #89) is just the thing. Lighter (much lighter) than a hairspray and not as sticky as a pomade or texturizing cream, it basically just lends a little heft to your hair to make it look fuller without making it look dirty or greasy (which is my main problem with most texturixing products. I was surprised by how much I liked this stuff. It smells great, gives my hair a little boost (no shine, though, for those of you for whom that's a concern), and looks adorable. My main complaint is actually packaging-related: the cap tends to fall off, and when the cap falls off, the little sprayer-head-thing is more likely to fall off, and then you're left with a can of spray that you can't...spray. In any event, I fixed it, and it's fine, but it was bothersome for a moment. It may have taken 88 previous iterations to get to this herbal blend, but it was worth it.

Malikah says: I've been trying to give my flat iron a break and embrace my natural waves for a more carefree, low maintainence summer hair style. I've tried several texturizers and pomades, trying to achieve those sexy, loose, but not ridiculously wild waves. After washing my hair and letting it air dry, I spritzed on a good amount of Prive Finishing Texture Spray. The spray had a great light scent and didn't leave my hair feeling hard or crunchy like some hairsprays can. It didn't really help my curls hold up to the humid weather, and I generally try to avoid products with alcohol that can really dry out your hair. I didn't really like the "semi-matte" finish either, so I would go for something that really added shine. I think it would be great for someone that wasn't worried about the drying out factor, but this one didn't really work for me.

.Yes, this is a very strong holding hair spray. The only time I need the extra hold is when I have the doo in a ponytail. Honestly, I wear it in a pony about 1/2 of every week since I am usually rushing around to get out of the house in the am and it comes in handy at the gym Having said all of that I haven't used such a strong spray in ages. This isn't for the faint of heart, this is for all the gals that want their doo in place! it's got a floral almost fruity scent but it is quickly masked by the high alcohol aroma but when it dries down the fragrance does shine through and it's not bad at all. If you don't mind the drying effects of the alcohol then you will be able to use. I would put my hair in a pony smooth over with my hands then spray this into my hands and smooth over again to get all the little fly aways to lay flat, no joking this does work and keeps my doo in check all day.. The downfalls are if you get into a weather predicament and get the doo wet, almost immediately a strong smell the hairspray again and I didn't like that at all, I don't need my hairspray competing with my fragrance. I did experience my hair looking a little more dry also so beware that you may need to use with a leave in product to keep the drying at bay.. At the end of the day I will continue to use but I highly doubt I would repurchase, I am just at the point where I would rather spend a little more and get a product that is gentler to my hair.

Sheba says: 'Ditto'! I have used this in the past and it definitely does what it claims - Instant Freeze. I think this is a great spray for those who have details to their style they might want to 'freeze', like maybe spike type styles or anything where you want the hair to just stay exactly like it is when sprayed. I bet there are many of us looking for just that spray. However, I, along with Cityslicker, seem to prefer a spray with little or no alcohol, and a natural hold. This one seems more adept for holding the more dramatic style. I have gotten away from the extra firm look but for those who want it -- this rocks!!

I have fairly fine hair that tends to fall flat after about two hours, and when I got a new short bob haircut, I was worried about being able to keep it bouncy and cute all day long. At the salon, they used a volumizing spray to give it some lift, but I didn't want to spend 30 bucks on a salon brand (seriously, who has that kind of cash?). I took a gamble on this spray, and I hit the jackpot. I actually sprayed and blow-dried my hair at night, slept on it, and awoke with bouncy, full hair that actually stayed that way all day. I know it says "strong hold," but don't be alarmed - it looked and felt like my hair was completely au naturale. Basically, it's amazing. You can get it for $4.99 at Walgreens, but I got it for $3.89 at Bed, Bath and Beyond's expanded health and beauty section (check their website to see if a store near you has this...it's almost always cheaper than your basic drugstore).

This spray is a terrific buy. I actually just happened to hit upon it on EBay and now will be needing to keep a supply of it handy. I have usually had very good luck with anything L'Oreal and this is no exception. I use it in the morning when I am getting set for the day. It gives the appearance of the much needed extra body and yet your hair is still soft to the touch. I have been avoiding a lot of the 'strong' or 'extra strong' or 'extreme strong' sprays as they leave me with helmet head a lot of the time. This is an exception to that rule. It will give you that look of more texture and body and yet your hair does appear to be doing it naturally and that is what I want. The cost is so reasonable for what you get.

I’m the one who sits in the hairdresser’s chair, looks at the crown of my head and pleads, “I need height!” Not Sopranos ladies hair height (look what happened to poor Adriana!) but a flat crown doesn’t work for my face shape.
Up until I found What a Tease, there were only two options. Root volume sprays—not too thrilled with those. Teasing and spraying the crown area—my hair wasn’t too thrilled with that.
While massive hair or big hair wasn’t my goal, I hoped What a Tease would give me some gentle oomph in the right spot. The product is now my secret hair weapon.
I can’t say I know what “elastic polymers” are, but I do know they produce the little bit of help that I need in getting my hair to frame my face in the way I like. And with no lasting bad effects afterwards.
The directions say to lift the hair in the place you want volume and spritz. I’ve found if I use the end of a rat tail comb to lift the hair, rather than use my hands, I can get the spray in exactly the spot(s) I want. Now if the product would only work on my legs to get my body height up a couple of inches!

I have used Big Sexy Hair What a Tease Backcomb in a Bottle with some pretty good results also. I did like the hint to use the rat tail comb and found that to be very helpful. Actually, sometimes I had thought what is the difference between a product like this --- root lifter --- and/or just plain hair spray?? So I tried to use my hairspray in the same manner but it just did not do the same job. The root lifter seemed to be very similar to this. I do like the volume that seems to be added with the use of this 'tease'. It does what it claims to an extent. Do not use this thinking that you will have the Big Sexy Hair in its name. You will have the appearance of more volume and body but you will not have Big Hair. I guess maybe I should not say that -- I did not. As I said I did not but that doesn't mean that you won't. You will see the appearance of bigger hair. It is definitely worth the investmentif you have very fine or thin hair!

This hairspray is much like the rest of the products by this line; the results are beautiful and really deliver what they advertise. At first I was very weary of this product. The very first ingredient is Alcohol, which I must admit scared me a little. Well more than a little, how good can it possibly be to spray alcohol onto your hair? Of all things that sounds like it would be drying and cause it to look brittle after a few weeks, right? I have now been using this spritz for about 3 weeks, not every day but close, and I have noticed no ill affects at all. In fact quite the opposite. The spritz keeps everything in place, but still allows you to touch your hair without that crunchy brittle feeling that some hair sprays can leave behind. Right after the first use you notice how incredibly shiny your hair looks, but after two weeks it looks healthier and shinier even when I don't apply. I have been using the shampoo and conditioner from the same line also so it could have been a combination of all the lovely essential oils being infused into my lucky hair. Whatever, I'm not complaining!

As a side note I must also say that the smell of alcohol is quite strong when you first spray, but it fades quickly to leave that light olive oil citrus that the rest of the products from this line seem to have. Also the bottle is HUGE, I don't think I'll ever be able to use it up. If you like to use hairspray you will be more than happy with this Nutrient Therapy Spritz.

In days of yore, I would never, ever even contemplated straying from my once beloved Sebastian Shaper Plus. For me, this was hairspray perfection - everything I wanted from a hairspray from scent to hold to lasting ability to touchability...then a few years ago, things went horribly, horribly wrong. They changed the formula. (I have no idea why - but I have heard something about flurocarbons and they needed to change the formula to comply - the funny thing is if you call them, they act like you've lost your mind...."No, we haven't changed it". Tsk, tsk....not true!) My once favorite hairspray became ordinary and since that sad day I have searched and searched for a replacement but have yet to find one. Unfortunately, my search continues after trying the Rusk. I will say that I like it better than a lot I have tried, and let me tell you I have a graveyard of hairsprays from high end to desperate drug store purchases, but something is missing. I don't know if it's the way it comes out of the can - almost Aqua-Net -ish or something? Not misty enough...and it makes my hair a little crunchy and dry. Lastly, I'm not lovin' the fragrance. (I don't hate it either - just kind of so-so). I am going to continue to use it though b/c as I said it's better than anything I have in my bathroom closet at the moment, and perhaps it will grow on me, but for now, I'd give it a five out ten stars if I was rating.

This is an amazing hairspray... I know the price is high but I was able to pick it up at 50% off at a local salon. I have color treated hair, use a flat iron and try to take good care of the locks. I can’t get over the flexibility of the spray. I literally could douse the doo and still brush through it. It really holds well without ever being stiff. I swear that a spritz is enough to flat iron with and keep control of all of the flyways for the entire day. My hair never looks like it is coated, it doesn’t flake or my make my hair dry, if anything it’s shinier. I will choke when I have to pay full price for it but I will have to re-buy!

This is one of the many items in Nick Arrojo's ("What Not To Wear") hair products line. After seeing some of the miracles he performs on the show I had to try a few of his products. This hair spray leaves your hair styled - yet genuinely flexible. It doesn't feel like the helmet of spray you get from many other products out there. It has a very good hold to it. Your hair is not solid with hair spray -- it will move in the wind but it behaves. I am very happy with the hair spray. It does cost more than some of my usual "sale" sprays but I believe it is worth it. You do not need to use a lot of it to get the job done. The only additional thing I might still ask for is Nick to be in the bottle!!!
