Review - Greenleaf Spa Foaming Hand Soap
I've always had a weird anti-foaming hand soap bias. I think it's maybe that I don't feel like I wash my hands as vigorously with foam soap as I do with a liquid soap, or something? Like, half the work is already done. It's lathered up. What's left for me to do? So I was skeptical with this one.
However, I put this Greenleaf Spa Foaming Hand Soap in my downstairs bathroom to see how the roommates reacted. "Oh my god," one said. "It's so...SMOOTH." I had to agree with him. The soap leaves your hands feeling clean, but SOFT. Like, creepily soft. And the scent we got - snow flowers (not a real flower) - isn't available online anymore, but if the others are anything like this one, they'll be dreamy.
Okay, so the soap is a little pricey. Maybe you get it and you put it in your Fancy Bathroom where some mom in the 80s would have put shell-shaped soaps that I never ever thought were candy and accidentally ate one time. Throw some seahorse towels on the rack, put this foaming hand soap behind the sink, and you got a stew* going.

Review - B. Witching Bath Company Kitchen & Garden Soap
I don't think I understand the name of this hand soap company. I mean, I get that it's a play on the word "bewitching," but is it supposed to be, like, someone's name? Bernard Witching? I'm not going to worry about it too much, because I liked the soap enough that the name doesn't really matter.
I got this Kitchen & Garden Soap in the Garden Sage scent, and hoo boy! Is it ever sage-y. My roommate, when we moved into a new apartment, really wanted to do a cleansing ritual where we burned sage to clear the house of bad energy (she's from California, she can't help being a little bit of a hippie), but we never got around to it. (The energy in our house seems ok to me, though.) If we had done that ritual, though, I think the sage smell would have been approximately as strong as the smell on this soap. Not to say that it's a bad thing. The idea with these Kitchen & Garden Soaps, as you see in the quote from their website, is that the scent of the soap will help mask pungent odors from your Kitchen & Garden work (respectively, onions and manure, I assume). And mask it certainly does! I enjoyed it greatly. I wish their website was a little more user-friendly, but if I had to choose between nice soap and a nice website, I guess I choose nice soap. Try it!
Deedlejuse Says: Ok, seriously, I adore this soap. I even am willing to over look the website, which is difficult to navigate-we'll say. The flavor of my soap is Heirloom Tomato. I must tell you there is nothing closer to my heart than tomatoes, and the heirloom is my favorite of all of the varieties. The soap is strong, but also cleans very well and does eliminate any odors from miscellaneous yuckies you might come into contact with. The scent really does smell just like a tomato plant in the sunshine, and always makes me smile! All of the products from this company look affordable and natural. I think it just needs a chance for people to get on the bandwagon, and I am so there! Any company that understands the wonders of the tomato plant are a-ok in my book!
Sultana says: "Roasted Coffee" is the one that I have. I expected it to smell really strong and overwhelming but it was quite the opposite. It doesn't even smell like coffee! It smells very light with a hint of vanilla, which I love. This won me over for two reasons. First, I hate the way traditional soaps make your hands feel after you wash dishes and this makes them feel very moisturized. Secondly, it has tea tree oil and smells great. This is a company I am starting to like! I say Yes!
Melissa says: I have the Rosemary Herb soap and I love it. It's infused with tea tree oil and has a strong aroma which is so invigorating! I'm smelling it all the time because it really opens up the senses and gives your hands a refreshing feeling. I read all of the other reviews, and I must try the other varieties. I highly recommend this one and can't wait to explore the rest of the line.

Review- Lush Honey I Washed the Kids Soap
"Sweet honey heaven cleanses and moisturizes sensitive skin. Imagine pulling the comb straight out of the hive, slathering that divine honey all over, then being showered by a delicate spring rain. Honey I Washed The Kids handmade soap calms sore, sensitive epidermis with a rich aloe vera lather and leaves skin silky smooth and deliciously satiated. Slight hints of bergamot and orange lift your spirit and lull you into an intoxicating honey bliss." $7.95
I know, I know it says I washed the kids. Well I don't have kids and this soap is way too good smelling for me to be a stickler for the rules. If you love the scent of honey, you will LOVE this soap. It's sweet without being sickly and it's fresh enough to make you smell scented, but clean. The bar does have a flaw though. The honeycomb-looking part of the bar is much harder than the gorgeously soft tan part. And it's a little sharp. I simply took the honeycomb part off of my soap and used the rest. The remainder of the soap is so wonderfully soft that I can see why it's recommended for children. This soap shouldn't even be called a soap (you know I think soap is a four-letter word). It should be called a moisturizing bar or something about lotion, because my skin doesn't need any further hydrating products when I use this soap. I've sniffed but not tried Lush products in the past, but now my interest is piqued. I guess I know what gift card I'll be asking dear old sis for!

Review - Plum Island Soap Co. - Soap

Ours are made in small batches with high quality vegetable-based ingredients. We use pure essential oils for scent, ground herbs, and clays for color and texture. Creamy in lather, natural, pure, gentle & wonderfully scented! Available in 8 scents. 3.5 oz.
ISLAND SPICE
A spicy concoction of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and clove with ground oats for a gentle exfoliation. A scent that's almost good enough to eat! $4.75
I selected Island Spice and have included its description above. This does not even feel like soap as you are using it. It lathers up beautifully and just envelops you in it's utterly gorgeous scent. It feels so creamy and soft - even with the ground oats in it. It is one of the smoothest soaps ever that exfoliates as well as it does. Plum Island Soap Co. knows its business -- this is by far one of the best soaps on the market. The cost is more than reasonable for the results you will get. Your skin will be so clean, exfolitated, silky smooth and feel wonderful. There is a $6.00 s+ h charge so make it worth it. Don't just buy one bar -- buy several. Even better, if you are located near the Plum Island Soap Company or a Nantucket Natural Oils go there and buy it with no shipping charge. But beware -- you will definitely buy more products than you went in to buy.

Review- Plum Island Soap Company Citrus Scrub Soap

I used Citrus Scrub made from grapefruit, lemon, and orange essential oils with cornmeal for the gentle scrubbing qualities. Though it seems the ingredients would make it heavily-scented, it’s actually very clean-smelling—in a good way. I like the moisturizing lather so much I use it to shave with, as well as on my entire body. It’s one of those really good soaps that’s best kept out of the water stream. Be sure to do this so it lasts a long time; you’ll want it to. However, at only $4.75 a bar, that’s a reasonable price to pay for a good soap. I know it’s only September, but for those holiday early-bird shoppers, these are terrific stocking-stuffers.

Review- Cor Soap by Plank Designs
The core starting point beauty of Cor’s skincare line is that all of our products contain the patented formula of nano-silver with silica and all of our ingredients are derived from natural sources. It removes make up, and has been shown to even out the skin tone, reduce the appearance of sun spots and pore size, maintain the skin’s natural moisture factor, visibly reduces the signs of aging, and protect against the hazardous effects of the sun. The ingredients in Cor soap are all natural. $125, trial size $12Cor soap is the first soap I've ever used that imparts sunscreen on the skin. I find that so cool. After all, a girl can never get enough sunscreen! It also has silver in it which is a great anti-bacterial. This soap has a lower PH than most bar soaps so it cleans without stripping your skin. They say to lather your face and leave it on for 2 minutes but I guess my skin is too sensitive for that because I couldn't take it. I'm fine using it if I wash it off like a regular soap. Cor soap is expensive, no doubt, but if you saw the little sliver I got that I've been using for about 3 weeks, you'd believe them when they say that a regular bar lasts 6-9 months. When you consider that you'll only have to buy this soap 2 times a year at most, the price seems more reasonable.

Review - Bath & Body Goldfish in a Bag Soap
This bar of Tangerine Grapefruit scented soap looks just like a real goldfish from the pet store. When you're done with the soap you have a cute little goldfish toy to play with. Imported. Natural glycerin soapFun for all ages
Great gift idea
3 wide X 3 1/2 h
$7.50
Okay, okay, I know I am not a child -- but I cannot resist cute items like this. I leave it out on display for a while and it does give off a really clean scent. Then when I am bored with the visual effects I will use it. It is a glycerine soap and lathers up like one and cleans like one. However, it does have that great scent. So first I get decorative value, plus a nicely scented bathroom, and now I have an unusual soap. So I feel I get my $7.50 worth of value. I have picked up a few similar ones in gift shops for more money when I didn't know this was available. However, the ones if the gift shops were Beta Fish and the blue looked fantastic -- but they did not have any scent. I hate to admit it but I will probably buy more in the future. I cannot pass up such an adorable deal.

Review - Vermont Soap Organics Soap Company- Oatmeal Lavender Bar Soap

Dry Skin - A superior face and body bar - Our most popular!
Bar soap is something that is really easy to find, and sort of hard to make too badly. For one, I find it difficult to actually tell the difference between some higher-end bar soaps. It is good and works well or it doesn't. Usually it's sort of hard for them to be so much better that it gets my attention.
This one did. I absolutely love this bar, it is all natural, vegan, and all but one of the ingredients is organic. The soap itself is so gentle and soothing. There is none of that hard, icky feeling you can get after using a bar soap. The lather is delicate, granted, but it works and cleans. The oatmeal, I guess, and the essential oils leave your skin so hydrated I almost didn't have to use lotion after the shower! It is definitely gentle enough to be trusted on delicate skin, and especially good for people who can get irritated from soaps (like me). And the best part.... $3.99 for a generous sized bar. I love it.

Danielle & Co. Travel Size Ivy & Aloe soap

This skin softening Shea Butter Soap is a blend of Natural Botanical Oils, hydrating Shea Butter and moisturizing Glycerin to nourish the skin, leaving it soft and hydrated. Its silky lather amazes the skin and the senses. Scent: A clean blend of citrus and florals.
Confession: when I go to my family's house, their soap rips my skin apart. No names mentioned but it just feels very chemical and they have hard water to boot. I get out of the shower feeling tight and dry. This little soap is perfect to slip into my bag in a ziploc and bring along. It smells so great and lathers up, and fights the evils of hard water, leaving me feeling soft and smooth after my shower. I have reviewed other soaps by this company and they are top of the line, making wonderful products for great prices. I am 100% sure I am going to give these out as little additional gifts to people on birthdays and for holidays because I know they won't be disappointed and will love the great scents and benefits.Thursday, May 1, 2008
Review - Mario Badescu Makeup Remover Soap
For gentle, daily cleansing this creamy, oil-free cleanser removes make-up and surface debris from all skin types, leaving it soft and smooth. Non-drying, non-soap formulation.
My skin is so sensitive that honestly, I often don't wash my face save for every few days and even then with something super super mild. If I am not careful my face can have a complete freak out/melt down complete with peeling, redness, hives and rashes. This cleanser is so gentle it felt like I was rubbing a moisturizer into my face rather than a cleanser, my make up slid off effortlessly without a fuss and there was no stripping of natural oils or required skin protectors. I've been using this product for two weeks (Along with two other Badescu products I will also be reviewing) and my skin is noticeably way more calm and collected, less red and flaky and less prone to zits/rashes. 16 oz is only $20 and will last forever, I highly recommend this stuff!

Review - Canus Goat's Milk Soap
Goat's milk has long been known as a rejuvenator and a moisturizer of human skin. Goat's milk is the only milk containing capric-capryllic triglyceride which helps moisturize the skin, contributing to its softness. Our goat's milk soap is extra gentle, bringing this ancient legacy to life. $2.49This soap lathers up into a nice rich froth and is very creamy. The scent matches their body lotion so it’s nice to use them together. I don’t use bar soap often. I am a big bath gel person. I have to admit it was really nice to use a bath soap that offers such a nice moisturizing effect. It also doesn’t just melt away in the shower. It’s pretty hard and lasts. What am I most shocked about? It’s only $2.49. This is SO worth the money. It does a great job in cleaning the body; it’s gentle and easy to use to shave with, in lieu of shaving cream...
Sheba says:
City Slicker is right -- this is an incredible product for the price. One thing I have discovered about soap in the shower is to hide it away from the shower water when you are not using it. It will be disintergrating each time your husband or whoever uses the shower and does not even use the soap. Further, it leaves that darn soapy residue down the wall of the shower. So protect your investment -- even if it is reasonable. This creates a luxurious lather as it gently cleanses. It does not leave your skin feeling dry -- in fact, it is just the opposite. Your skin is left with a soft silky feel to it -- and it feels nice and hydrated. The scent is a clean one and not strong so it is hard to think anyone might dislike it. It dissipates quickly after the shower so that there are only the lightest traces left. I am also a shower gel person but I toss soaps into the mix every so often. This is one that will remain in the mix for me.
Deedlejuse Says:
You are just going to hear more of the same. Tell me, if you could either buy a wonderfully gentle goats milk moisturizing soap or Dial, why would you choose the super-fragranced moisture sucking soap that is on the general market today? I don't think it is really even a question, and if you try this soap I think you'll agree with me.
Hillary says:
Goat's milk tastes great in coffee. It also makes for a great line of skin care. I really like the Canus Goat's milk lotion & soap. The scent is great: musky and clean at the same time. The bar rinses completely clean without drying. The best part about it is it's readily available at my local pharmacy (not all pharmacies carry it). This bar will be going in my shower from now on.
Amanda S. Says: This product really is great, and worth the money as said above. I love the lather and the gentleness of the soap on my skin (which has been even inexplicably more dry than usual for the past week. As repeated in my post about the lotion, I love the natural feel and smell of the soap and everyone in the household is excited about using it. Also noted by the males: it works great to wash short hair also!
Joyce says:
If you imagine that soap made with pure vegetable oil and fresh goat’s milk is going to feel creamy on your skin, you’re right. The scent is deliciously pleasant and delicate. Skin is smoothed and soothed. They have a children’s line and I can only believe the kiddies who get treated to being bathed with their version must feel and smell just plain good.

Review: Danielle and Company Shea Butter Soap

Danielle's products are created as “eco chic”. They are modern in design and are made with the purest ingredients, many of them being organic and made with essential oils. Each product is formulated with a botanical oil base and is enhanced with rich shea butter, highly prized for its skin-moisturizing benefits. All of Danielle’s products are completely naked of fillers, preservatives, sulfates, petrochemicals, GMOs or parabens. They are 100% vegan and cruelty-free.
Amanda S. Says:
Like Joyce I love that this soap seems like it's going to last forever, and the shape is great to hold onto unlike the usual bars. I love love love that it is vegan and cruelty free also, as that's my JAM I must say. And Kudos to this company for going the extra mile to be nice to the animals. The scent I had was extra invigorating also: lavender and spearmint. I would really recommend this scent because the minty-ness of it is so subtle but tingly and really wakes up your skin, it also calmed down the hot-spots I get when my skin gets rather itchy.
The scent of my bar is “Fresh off the Line” and it smells just like freshly laundered clothes! I'm a huge fan of the smell of clean clothes (who isn't?) so this soap is right up my alley. Add to that the fact that this is a very moisturizing bar made with shea butter and glycerin and you've got one great bar of soap. I've said it before, soap to me is a four letter word, but with how moisturizing this soap is, I may have to change my tune.
Deedlejuse says:
I, like all of the above, love this soap. I agree with Joyce and Sheba about how cool the shape is. It is curved perfectly to fit around all of my curves. It is perfect for shaving, if you use a pouf it makes a great lather. It really does last forever, I have had mine in the shower for over two weeks now, and you would think it was opened yesterday! Even though it lasts you are totally aware of the soap spreading over your body. Personally, I am strange, I LOVE spicy herby soaps. Patchouli, sandalwood, clove, anything that isn't the normal flowery soap (these other soaps have a time and a place but in the morning there is nothing better than some spice) so I got the Classic Man's scent. It is delicious, zesty orange peel, eucalyptus leaves, and exotic spice it says. It just makes me smile. And believe me it would definitely be nice for your man to smell like this...
Sheba says: I have been using this Apricot Scrub off and on for a couple of weeks. It smells heavenly . . it is so sweet without being too sweet. It's shape enables you to hold it firmly. It lathers up wonderfully and it is so gentle on your skin that it is hard to imagine that it is a 'scrub'. I have used 'scrubs' that left my skin very red and sore. One of them was an Apricot scrub by another company so I was a little leery when selecting this. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the results after such a gentle scrub. My skin feels rejuvinated and it does remove the dead skin -- leaving the newer fresher skin. Some scrubs dry your skin as they exfoliate -- not this one. It leaves your skin very silky soft and moist. This is definitely a keeper. The company makes other scents which I am definitely going to try. I believe Almond will be my next one. You are bound to find a scent you enjoy and it will surround you as you scrub away. The cost is bit more than I like to spend for a bar of soap but it is a decent size and will last for a good amount of time. I think I might check into purchasing 2 or more bars at the same time to see how the shipping charges are then. Why pay shipping each time you buy a bar -- combining a few bars might be more expensive at the time but is usually less expensive than buying one at a time - several times. I need to see if my theory works on this. Also, I should mention - take a peek at the store locations (included on the web site). There just might be one in your vicinity which would save you any shipping cost.
CitySlicker Says: I have this in Ivy & Aloe. I find it to have fresh clean scent. It lathers up nicely with a bath pouf. I find that it's a little weaker without so I opt to use a pouf all the time. It does a great job of cleaning the bod. I too, love that is has shea butter within so it leaves my skin hydrated and soft. I am at the tail end of the bar.. My only suggestion is to remove from wet areas as mine did get soft and slimy, totally my own fault.. It is a bit pricy but had lasted a long time.. :)

Review - L'occitane Shea Butter Extra Gentle Soap

Generously sized for everyday use and the bath. Formulated with a 100% vegetable base and enriched with nourishing Shea Butter. L'Occitane works directly with women's Shea-processing collectives in western Africa, supporting economic recovery--and a heritage of natural harvesting traditions. Non-irritating; suitable for men, women and children. In a range of L'Occitane fragrances.
When using a good bar soap, especially one in the $10 per bar range, I find it difficult to notice a big between brands. But this soap really blew others I have tried out of the water. L'Occitane definitely has a well respected product line for a reason. The soap I tried was the Lemon Verbena, they say on their site it is a best seller, and I can totally see why. The lemony goodness just smells so clean and fresh and invigorating but not over the top intense, just very natural and delicate. It foams up instantly with this thick creamy wonderful lather. It feels like the foam is just pouring moisture over your skin, when you use it in the shower or bath. The best part that I have noticed, however, is how gentle it is. My boyfriend has super sensitive skin, he gets rashes from some kinds of body washes so we have to be careful. We even get him special goats milk soaps because they are supposed to be the most gentle. This soap has had no ill effects on his super sensitive skin, and even seems to sort of heal things he hadn't even noticed were off-kilter. The moisture level is really impressive, and the bar seems to last forever. This really is just a wonderful soap.

Review - Sun Feather Bar Soap

SunFeather's handcrafted artisan soaps feature our renowned olive oil soap base and the finest ingredients, botanicals and essential oils.
Deedlejuse says:
I have been using the rose cranberry 2oz bar of olive oil based soap. It has a wonderfully pungent fragrance that is quite romantic and really beautiful. It is sort of spicy and floral, the rose and fruit is a really nice combo I think. The smell didn’t really overwhelm the other fragrances I wore, though it did last throughout the day. I don’t really like bar soap in general because it just feels like there is something left on my skin. This one, unfortunately, has left me with that same hard feeling. I also didn’t really get a wonderful lather from the bar. I was using it just as a bar soap straight on my skin, though, and I think I might have avoided that if I had used it with a pouf like CitySlicker. It didn't zap my skin of moisture like some other bars, which is a definite advantage. This soap does come in beautiful packaging, and really smells delish!

Review - Sea Blossom Soap

Deedlejuse says:
Hillary says:
My soap is French Lavender. It smells great, like true lavender essential oil. I don't usually like to use bar soap on my hands as I'm a bit of a compulsive washer & it tends to dry them out. This bar- not so much. My hands felt fine, not tight after their fourth wash of the day. Couple that with the great fragrance & I may just conquer my fear of washing my hands with a bar (ok, that's not entirely likely).
Amanda S. Says:
I received the White tea & Ginger scented soap, and it has glitter. I LOVE GLITTER (it's a guilty pleasure of mine...). Now, I am a person that *makes* my own soap by hand, so I am super picky when given a bar of soap and this stuff really does have a really soft smell, a long life, great consistency and after using my skin felt very soft and nice. A+ on this product, if you are big into scented/gift soaps Sea Blossom is a great place to start.

Review - Dove Calming Night Beauty Soap
Dove Calming Night Beauty Bar Soap is soothing honey & vitamin A. Prepare yourself for your beauty sleep with Dove Calming Night bar. The moisturizing formula of Dove, with soothing honey & Vitamin A, works together with the warmth of the shower to regenerate the look and feel of your skin's surface. While a sensual fragrance embraces your body & relaxes your senses. To enhance skin's natural renewal process, apply Dove Regenerating Night Lotion after showering. My honest to goodness standard reaction to a bar of soap is to cringe. Normally, after I use soap my skin feels tight and dry and it takes a layer of moisturizer AND a layer of almond oil to make my skin stop feeling this way. However, because Dove brands have a reputation of being gentle I figured I would give this soap a try and wholeheartedly the rumors are true, my skin didn't feel dry and icky after my shower. I am probably one of... five people left on the planet that has only used a Dove product once but just in case there are others waiting to be converted out there, if you like to use soap in the shower/bath, this is the kind of soap to use. Plus the scent of this particular brand is super subtle but very relaxing and beautiful. I will definitely buy a few bars of this for my dedicated soap using family members as I think they'll enjoy it a lot.
