Review- Smashbox Photo Op Eyeshadow

Our fab trios are all playfulness and color! Get rich, bold hues in just one swipe. Each includes 3 coordinated shadows-base shade, contour color and highlighter-so you'll never wonder which shades to wear together again. You'll even find application tips on the peel-back label.

• Super blendable, velvety formula
• Highly pigmented, even color
• Lasting wear

Smashbox, wow you really hit it this time! I've been on the longest search/hunt for an eyeshadow palette that could pretty much cover everything I needed and wanted on an everyday basis. This one fulfilled it. It is really rich in color and applies evenly. The soft and smooth texture makes it really easy to wear and blend, especially if you're always late or in a rush, like me! And the staying power - no doubt, it lasts throughout the day without budging or compromising. All of these factors contribute to my favorite kind of eyeshadow. There are so many color combos to pick from, I recommend choosing and coordinating the colors you like the most that best complements your eye color and skin tone. Because even though it's a little on the pricey side running about $28, this Smashbox Photo Op Trio makes up for it by being nicely pigmented and long-lasting throughout the day. To me, as a trio, it is very worth it, especially if you're picky about eyeshadows (the color, texture, and wear-ability), this is one that fully passed my test!

NYC City Mono Eyeshadow in 5th Avenue

The N.Y.C City Mono Eye Shadow is a range of single coloured eye shadows that provide a matte like finish on the eye lid resulting in a long lasting, smooth and vibrant colouring.

First of all: why can't I find anywhere in America to buy this online? I keep getting Lloyd's Pharmacy (or is it chemist) and amazon.co.uk. In any event, this is another surprisingly great product from the inexpensive New York Color (NYC) line. The single version of the City Duet, the City Mono is one color-packed little shadow with a matte finish. Like its doubled-up sister shadow, the Mono provides great pigment and staying power for a low price - it's a great option for trying out a color you're not sure about. This chartreuse is called "5th Avenue" for some reason, probably because...green is the color of money? And people who live on 5th Avenue are rich? Or maybe because all of the rest of us are green with envy that they live on 5th Avenue? In any event, the color is a bright key lime green (the picture above does it no justice) and would be great as a lid color with a deep green crease on a night out on the town. Well worth trying!

Trish says: Oh NYC Color, I do love you and root for you always...but this Mono Eyeshadow didn't quite do it for me...I tried the shade in a light/medium brown #906 and could barely see it on..I love all kinds of brown eye-shadows and am rarely let down by any of them, but maybe for my medium skin tone, this particular shade wasn't dark enough. From what I could see, it seemed light and silky with little glimmers of sparkle to it, but not much more pigment was there to detect. If you like brown eye-shadows, but need or want a richer and deeper pigment, this one may not show up as it happened for me. However, because of the softness, I'd possibly try a different shade next time!

Review - Sally Hansen - Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy Instant Definition Eye Shadow Palette – Earth

The jet-milled powders in our Instant Definition Eye Shadow Palette deliver instant, even, silky color and delicate dimension. And the coordinated color trio offers the perfect lid, contour, and highlight shades, all in one compact. It is the easiest way to create a stylized, professional look.

First: the above image, ostensibly of the color combination I got, "Earth," looks absolutely nothing like the actual colors. What appears to be baby-poop green is a middling olive, the champagny one up there is more peachy, and the coppery brown is closer to eggplant brown. I don't know what happened. In any event, I liked this eyeshadow palette! I am a big fan of the green/purple combo, so this made it easy for me to have a whole eye look in one case. The contour also worked double duty as a liner when I didn't want to do a whole big thing.

These are definitely a step up from a regular drugstore brand - obviously, you are somewhat paying for Carmindy's inclusion, but I kind of love Carmindy? She is like your cool older cousin who knows a lot about makeup and still kind of treats you like a kid, but will sneak you lipstick behind your mom's back. So I'm okay with that. They're not professional-grade, but they last through a day (or evening), and have good pigmentation. Like!

Melissa says-I really like the trio and use it about once a week. The colors stay on and look good on my skin. I don't use them to contour, focus on the lid, etc... I select one color (I'm not that good with applications) and it works! I also like how it's still natural while keeping the right balance of color. To be honest, I was always skeptical of drug store make up, but I really like this trio.

Review - NYC City Duet Eyeshadow (Island Sunset)

Put on your shades, guys, because these eyeshadow duets? ARE BRIGHT. I don't know how the pink and purple up there are showing up on your monitors, but on mine they are nowhere NEAR as bright and vivid as they are in person. For a budget-ish drugstore brand like NYC, these pigments are surprisingly bold and deep. The line comes in several other wowie-zowie color combinations with punny New York-y names (Upper Zest Side being my favorite, I think, both color-wise and name-wise).

I wore the fuchsia on my top lid and used the purple as more of a liner for the debut of these shadows. These are definitely cool colors, not for ladies with a lot of olive undertones. They stayed put admirably, though I only wore them out for the evening, not all day and into the night...I could see them just starting to rub off when I got home. The nice thing about them being so heavily pigmented was that it was easy to adjust the intensity of the color to suit my needs. Cheap, and available at your local drugstore? What's not to love?

Review - Maybelline Expert Wear Eyeshadow Limited Edition

Two complementary eye shadow shades in one sleek compact.
  • Advanced formula glides on effortlessly with superior smoothness
  • Velvet-tip applicator blends without tugging or pulling
  • Crease-resistant, fade-proof color stays true for all-day wear
  • Also available in singles, trios and quads
I have been a dedicated user of Maybelline for years. They are timeless but they still manage to be trendy. They took a well loved product and revamped it by coming out with limited edition colors.
I have this duo is Excite-Mint which is two shades of light minty green. This duo is perfect for the summer! It goes on smooth, has a little bit of shimmer and stays on all day. It creased a little, but not much.
I wouldn't normally go for a color like this, but this worked on my darker skin tone.

Trish says: I tried the Maybelline eyeshadow in a grayish/purple combo and love it! It's a very subtle shade and I love the grayish/purple smokey effect - it works very effortlessly, but looks sultry and sexy without even trying! The staying power doesn't seem too long though, but I actually like blending and building it on top of my existing eye-makeup. It's great for a sophositicated daytime look, as well as a touch of smokiness for nighttime. Overall, if you want to play up your eye-makeup routine and experiment with colors - Maybelline's eyeshadow duo is a fun place to start!

Deedlejuse Says: So ladies, if your not on the color train yet, get on it!! It is so much fun to experiment with colors and see what you can do. With Maybelline colors you can totally afford to have as many as your heart desires! The pigment is great, and usually stays on for hours. I have the shade "Just Peachy" and the lighter nude is perfect for highlighting the brow bone and in close to the nose. The peachy pink is lovely on the lid. I use a brush instead of the enclosed applicator and I am more than happy with the results. I defintely reccomend this shadow duo!

Review- Rimmel Color Rush Quad Eye Shadow

Pure colour impact. Blends easily. Crease-proof.

I tried this palette in Smoky Noir and loved it. It comes with 3 gray eyeshadows ranging from pale silver to charcoal, and one black eyeshadow. All the ingredients for creating a perfect smoky eye in a small stylish compact. You can use each shade individually if you're in a rush, or blend them together in any combination you like. Each shade wears well, without smudging all over your face and giving you raccoon eyes, and it comes in eight different color combos for your makeup matching enjoyment. And they are just about $6 a pop so you can afford to collect them all!

Review - Yaby Shimmer Eyeshadow

» Highly pigmented eyeshadow that are extremely easy to work with.
» The smooth texture allows blending with ease.
» Used dry or wet to achieve anything from a veil of color to a dramatic statement.

These itty-bitty, shimmery shadows are intended to go in the larger Yaby palette; I just got one to test (I believe the color is called “Green Delicious”). About the size of a dime, each little pot gives great color for your eyes. The one I got is a "frost" finish, but the colors come in a variety of finishes from matte to high shine. I think they probably work best in tandem with each other, but I liked this a lot by itself. I think the nicest thing about this product line overall is that the little refills are pretty inexpensive – around $3 – and they come in an INSANE array of colors. It’s ideal for the girl who likes to play around a lot with eyeshadow (and, of course, makeup artists, who I think are the real target audience for this line). I didn’t find that this shadow lasted very long, though, so you may get to play around more often than you thought!

Malikah says: I tried this in a shimmery pink shade, which was so wonderfully feminine I fell in love with it right away! It was a perfect frosty pink that can work beautifully year round, and its subtle enough that you won't look like a little girl playing dress up. It didn't last that long though, and kind of creased after awhile, so you may want to keep it handy for touch ups (which is easy to manage since its so tiny). You could collect your fave shades and customize your own palette, or just keep a few of the dime-sized pots in your makeup bag to transition your look or pack on a trip.

Josephine says: I have the color called "dragon fruit." It's a really bright pink and looks better on my cheeks than my eyes but that's just reflective of my own coloring, this color could look awesome on eyes belonging to someone with more yellow tones in their skin. Anyway, I agree with Malikah and Hillary in that the color did fade after a sort of short amount of time for how pigmented the website claims the shadow to be but it did go on 100% true to the color in the pan which is a testament to its quality. I agree with Hillary that this palette would be a useful addition to a makeup artist's arsenal. Has anyone put a fine point on the size of this puppy by likening it to the size of a lithium battery? For real.

Review - Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in Anja

Bring a room to its knees without saying a word. Each of these glorious colours makes a statement that’s as individual as you are. Highly pigmented, these lasting colours ensure all-night intensity.

For some reason, blue eyeshadow will always, always, always make me think of the movie My Girl – maybe I saw it during a particularly formative moment, or maybe I just love Jamie Lee Curtis a lot – whatever the reason, I will never forget the scene when JLC tells Vada Sultenfuss that a girl can “never have enough blue eyeshadow.” I think that in the somber, grunge-oriented ‘90s, this was intended as sort of a “ha ha, people in the ‘70s thought blue eyeshadow was fashionable and it’s SO NOT” joke, but now? I think it’s kind of true. Blue eyeshadow, used correctly, can be flattering to just about everyone.

This particular blue eyeshadow, from Illamasqua, is called “Anja,” and is a bright, matte robin’s egg blue, that, when applied lightly, gives just a whisper of tint, and when applied more heavily, is dramatic in a kicky, summer way. I wore it (along with a shimmery green) to the New Year’s party I attended in Florida, where I decided to look like an old Florida lady. I think it worked pretty well:

I am seriously digging the finish on this powder, and it definitely lasted a while (I put that on at around 7pm, and I didn’t put those glasses on until almost midnight, and the eyeshadow is still in FULL EFFECT. That said, I don’t know that I would rock this look on a normal day – the blue is SO bright and SO pale that I think (on me, at least) it would always look a little bonkers. I’m saving this one for special occasions – especially the kind that last all night! Update: I wrote all of this and then read on the Sephora site that this line is exclusively “nighttime makeup.” So I guess I was right on target there! I’m now basically obsessed with the whole line.

Review - Smashbox Eyelights Eyeshadow Palette

Inspired by bright studio lights, our EYELIGHTS palettes contain color-coordinated mega-watt shades to light up your eyes. Each mirrored compact contains three metallic shadows that can be applied wet or dry, and a double-ended brush for lining and smudging. For a beautiful wash of shimmering color, apply the shadows with a dry brush. Apply them wet, and get vivid color with high metallic shine.

Yes. This is the stuff, people. Smashbox has never failed to disappoint me, and these eyeshadows make me want to go to their headquarters and kiss someone. Yes, they stay on really well. Yes, the compact is classy-looking and comes with a sweet dual-head brush so you can apply it multiple ways. Yes, you can use this shadow wet or dry. But my favorite thing about this set is that somehow, they have provided me with the exact colors I want for a great smoky eye. I have the set in "Smokebox," which is described as metallic warm beige, soft pewter, and intense black. I'd probably call the lightest color "ivory" instead of "beige," since it's closer to white than tan, but I am basically obsessed with these colors. You can do SO MANY things with just these three shades. The other color options don't look quite as versatile - none of the other color options have a dark enough color for me to use as a liner - but if they are as long-lasting as the Smokebox, I'm in.

Review- Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Color Pigments

Micronized color pigments fused with shimmering mica for use on the eyes, and anywhere else on the face and body. These lightweight, ultra-refined, densely pigmented powders apply shimmer smoothly and beautifully, wherever it's needed. $10 for 2.5 grams.

This stuff is awesome!!! I tried it in Flicker, a pale peachy shade and it left a gorgeous shimmer anywhere you apply it. You can use it pretty much anywhere you can think of and it will always look amazing. I dusted it on my eyelids with an eyeshadow brush for a simple casual shimmer that stayed put all day. You can also use a moist eyeliner brush to line your eyes with the shimmery powder for a bold evening look. This shade is also really flattering as a highlighter for brows and cheekbones. Since we are in the season of bare legs and shoulders, this product does an awesome job adding instant glamour to other exposed body parts. Dust it across your shoulders, collarbone and decolletage with a fluffy brush or blend it with your fave lotion to make your own shimmery body cream. It looks super sexy when applied just to the front part of your legs, and really helps elongate them too. And with 25 colors to choose from at only $10 a pop, you can choose your perfect shade or collect a few!

Sultana says: I have this color in 'Glisten'. I tried this on with and without eyeshadow primer. The day I used it without, it lasted pretty long. The color is a beautiful shimmery, peachy golden color. When I used it along with the OCC Primer, it lasted until I got home from work! It also enhanced the shade a little. This is a color that is simple enough for work but if worn a little more dramatically, can be used for going out as well. I have been wearing it almost everyday and I am very happy with it.

Review - e.l.f. Mineral Powder Eyeshadow

Bring a touch of natural beauty to your eyes with these soft, translucent shades that add subtle highlights for daytime or increased drama for night. With key vitamins A & B, these eyeshadows hydrate and minimize the appearance of fine lines.

Movie Maven says: Seems like every cosmetics company is trying their hand at the mineral line, and discount line e.l.f. (eyes lips face) is no exception. Carried at stores like Strawberry (aka The Poor Girl's H&M) and Jack's 99-Cent stores, e.l.f. actually has some surprisingly great products for a semi-ridiculous price. I tried this mineral eyeshadow in four colors: Earthy (deep green), Mysterious (violet), Temptress (looks pink but is more of a taupey mauve), and Golden (go ahead and guess what that last one looks like). I was particularly pleased with the Earthy and Golden, which were shimmery pigments, more so than the other two, which were more matte. I'd recommend using a shadow base with the matte colors, but the shimmery ones were vibrant with no base. If you're not used to mineral powders, be sure to tap your brush well, or you'll end up with a fabulous raccoon look! At $3 a pop, these shadows are a great - and super cheap - addition to any eyeshadow collection.
.
CitySlicker Says: First of all I can't believe these are only $3 per pot. That alone is amazing. The product and quality are really nice. I got 3 pots. They are just like all the other mineral companies' shadows; I am now wondering why I have spent over triple the cost on just one shadow from other lines. They glide on so lightly, they feel like air. The darker the shadow, the more pigment, the lighter the more feathery shimmery it is. These are true diamond in the rough finds! I find that by day's end there is only light creasing. At the end of the day these melt away with eye makeup remover and only when I wear them heavy do I see the remains of a bit of shimmer. Also you can wear on the lippies with a gloss over too - it looks cool and gives my gloss a new dimension. I can't wait to see what is next for E.L.F. They are really doing a wonderful job at offering truly affordable cosmetics to all - in cool colors that are hip and now!

Sheba says: e.l.f. is showing the way with their amazing products for such a darn reasonable price. Don't be a snob -- try these -- they are as good or better than much higher priced shadows. I have tried many lower priced cosmetics and been okay with them -- thought I got what I paid for. These will surprise you -- you are getting much more than you expect in quality alone. I believe that these can truly compete with some of the best ones out there. Check out the many shades available -- you will find one or actually many that you will select. I have three and all three are wonderful. However, I think I have found the perfect shade for working with my hazel eyes -- it is Earthy, a dark green as Movie Maven mentioned, but with just enough sparkle to pick up the flecks in the eyes.
You don't really care what works for me - you want to pick out what works for you and you will find it and you won't mind paying the small price for it!!

Deedlejuse says: These shadows as you have seen above are very good quality, I'm not saying for the price, because I believe that they are very good quality regardless of the price. Like I'd be more than willing to pay double or triple what they are charging. In fact using these really makes me evaluate the ridiculous amounts I have spent in the past on shadows that didn't even compare! I (believe) I got two pots, Golden and Partier, unfortunately neither of these colors worked that well with my complexion, blond, pale with pink undertones. Partier is sort of a dove gray, and not shimmery, while Golden is super shimmery almost brassy gold. I believe both colors will be to die for in the summer when my complexion is less pasty, but right now they really didn't work on me, which is sad because they are so nice! They stay put, and with very little effort you can really get a nice thick layer. I will definitely purchase some of the other colors so that I can get the true experience!

Amanda S. Says: I'm late for the party huh?? Well, what can I say that hasn't been said, other than to repeat... THREE BUCKS?? $3? Ladies, gentleman... This mineral eyeshadow is exactly the same, if not maybe even a little better (I had a way easy time blending this) than those that cost five times more! And I love all the colors (my favorite being 'partier' because it's super dark and sexy). This eyeshadow lasts all day and into the evening without creasing, flaking or wearing off. You seriously can't go wrong with these.

Hillary says: These Mineral Powder Shadows are inexpensive, but don't ever call them cheap! Their quality can compete with minerals costing 10 times what they cost. What I'm especially loving about these minerals is that they aren't all about the glitter like some other brands. I don't need glittery eyes to go grocery shopping, but I do like to wear makeup there just the same (I'm a bit of a junkie, I rarely leave the house without makeup). Temptress is the perfect wearable mauve. I wear it all by itself over my whole lid and it looks like me, but better. Sassy is a shiny bronze, Elegant is a glossy looking cream with pink undertones. I've also got Mysterious which is an understated flat grey/violet that goes well with Temptress. I love all four shadows and they last like champs. They are made of %100 natural minerals and frankly I don't know how e.l.f. pulls it off! All of the other companies have us believing that you have to spend a fortune to get good, pure mineral make-up then e.l.f. comes along and blows that theory right out of the water. I will definitely be buying more of these wonderful (and wonderfully affordable) eyeshadows.

Review- Giselle 8 Stack Collection Eyeshadow

For quick personal service, contact Stephen in Sales at: stephen.sunlabs@gmail.com. He can help you with all your mineral make-up needs.

OK, get this: you can get 8 eye shadows in a cool looking stack, in cute teeny little pan style containers, they're shimmery and awesome and.... guess what else? apparently you can use them in a million different ways. After reading up on their site, you can mix these with clear nail polish and make colored nail polish, use it as eyeliner, lip color... Seriously. And there are so many colors it's mind blowing. I have tried three different 'stacks', renaissance, double date, and flint. They're all perfectly awesome, renaissance being my own personal color favorite. They go on crease-lessly and without flake or disappearance problems. They're soft and shimmery and you can put them on for intense heavy color, or brush it on lightly for a softer tone.

Movie Maven says: Seriously. You guys. These stacks. ARE AMAZING. I'm obsessed. I took one over to my friend's house specifically so she could see it and be amazed. I have three color combos - Las Vegas, Flirt, and Wild Flower - that all have ridiculously awesome, mega-pigmented colors. There is a green in the Las Vegas set that is unlike any other green eyeshadow I've seen, and ALWAYS gets noticed by people checking out the set. I've used the shadows with eyeshadow primer for more intense color and alone for less, and in both cases was very pleased with the results. But it gets better! Since these are actually just loose pigments, you can mix them with clear nail polish to make any color into a shimmery polish. The one thing I'll mention with the polish is you MUST use a topcoat, which I didn't do the first time, and was rewarded with a chipped set of nails soon after. But overall, I cannot say enough good things about these shadows! Yes! They're a little pricey but if you consider the fact that you get EIGHT colors that can be used in a bunch of different ways, it's well worth it!

CitySlicker Says: First & Foremost props to Giselle Cosmetics for giving Beautifile the opportunity to review their products. Secondly, thank you for your generosity in giving the entire review panel 3 palettes of shadows each. I am very happy with all of my color choices and amazed at the colors. The palettes offer great combinations to work with and as Movie Maven mentions the possibilities are endless, since these are not just shadows. I don’t mind the loose shadows but I do find that my brush needs some serious taps back into the pot or I would be applying very heavy amounts. I prefer to lightly dip and apply more if I need it. So beware if you are heavy handed. My favorite palette is called Princess. The colors are pale and the shades so close to one another but yet so far. I am using all over my eyes as – highlighter, lid and crease. I do notice by the day’s end they do end up riding in the crease and feathering a bit. I won’t give up on these; I will get myself a primer to aid in the longevity since I adore the palettes so much...

Maria says: Talk about a color BONANZA!!! I have to give a nod to Cityslicker's comment to Giselle for their generosity in all of palettes they sent along for us to sample. Sheesh!!! So many gorgeous colors. I happened to have them out when four of my nieces were at my house and they went crazy for them! They were having a field day trying them out - oohing and aahing over each of them (in particularly a gorgeous teal color - so sorry I'm not sure which stack it came from) My favorite palette is Renaissance - they are all cool-toned colors ranging from blues and purples to tones of browns and grays. They're just drool-inducing to the makeup addict or to anyone who loves color. The only caveat I see is that you just have to be careful as there's only one cover and naturally it's at the top of the stack - to get to a color in the stack, you have to unscrew and then put it aside so you can dip into the color that you want - also, I would suggest using a primer with these colors as they are feather-light and tend to not stay (on my peepers anyway) without a primer. That said, no other complaints. You can wear them dry, wetlined, foiled, as highliters - you name it. Very versatile. I think you'll be hearing a lot about this company...there's a definite artist behind the line - one who knows colors and knows what women will go nuts for!

Deedlejuse Says: I have to agree with everyone on the amazing array of beautiful colors Giselle has created in these stacks. My favorite part is that having these colors makes me think outside of my normal routine and try something different, which generally turns out to look gorgeous since this eyeshadow is so beautiful! I'm going to have to disagree with Maria, this shadow stayed with me much longer than some others that I have tried. It is very, very light though, almost like a sheer pearly dusting of color. I don't like anything too matte, for me everything must be shimmery and pretty translucent, and these colors are the perfect thing for me! I have Princess, Terra Bella, and California Gold, all of which work perfectly with my super pale complexion. The stacking thing is sort of a pain, as others have mentioned, but I can't imagine a better way to package these and offer the incredible array that they do. All in all I would say I am more than happy with this shadow and if I ever use it all up I would definitely repurchase.

Sheba say: Giselle 8 Stack Collection Eyeshadow is positively one of the best products out there for eye enhancement. The people at Giselle are some very generous donors to us as reviewers. This generosity is much appreciated and luckily it gives us enough product to really do thorough reviews. Also, they know their products will not disappoint - they are not afraid of bad reviews. I think it would be impossible to not LOVE their products. I have Wild Flower, Contradiction, and Twilight to use and review. Just remember that each of these is an 8 color extravaganza!!! There is no way you cannot find a combination that you will love. Further, with a price of $45.00 for all 8 you are getting such a beauty bargain!! The array of colors and shades is amazing and they all seem to just bring out the best in the eyes. I brought mine into my office and let others sample them and to say their eyes just popped is not suffice. One of the girls usually does not wear them and she will from now on. Her eyes just shone with beautiful color and highlights. They were amazing with the ooomph she added using these. She tried a few different ones and each actually seemed better than the last. I, personally, had incredible results as I have tried each and every one. I found that you can wear them very lightly or add an extra coat to get more vivid color and combining colors is always an option. It is hard to believe but I did not find any that did not enhance my eyes in all three color stacks. After you have bought your first stack -- you will return for more. They stay on well and do not end up in the creases. You get your money's worth: first, the price is very reasonable and second, you use so little they will last and last. Finally, look at Cityslicker's note about buy 1, get 1 free. That makes these so affordable that you cannot pass them up. I thank Giselle for the many complements my eyes have received with your products!

Hillary says: There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said as the ladies seem to love the pigments as much as I do. I call them pigments and not shadows as I've used them for everything. I absolutely adore them as nail polish and have started weeding out colors from my nail polish collection just so I can use the brushes with the pigments mixed with a base coat. I believe that is the key- mixing the color with base coat, not topcoat. The sets I got are Starry Night which is all shades of white, grey and black. Perfect to create a smokey eye. The next palette I got is Las Vegas which has gorgeous bright colors (I used the green as nail polish for Christmas). I also got Brown Eyed Girl which is not just for girls with brown eyes, the terra cottas and browns really bring out the green in my hazel eyes. I couldn't be happier with the colors or the quality of these pigments. And even using them as nail polish, they are going to last a while. I suggest using a piece of tinfoil, scooping on some pigment, then pouring on and mixing in some base coat to make nail polish. Guaranteed if you invest in one (or more) of these palettes you will have fun with them.

FYI- I just found out it is possible to purchase additional lids for the shadows for $.20 apiece. A nice thing to have if you travel with your make-up as I do.

Sheba says I have to add to my earlier review. I have been using these shadows, wet, dry, and every which way. They are so practical as well as beautiful. I just got the additional lids and I must say -- I did not think that Giselle could have improved these shadows -- but the lids actually make them more practical and efficient. You might want to take just one or two with you for the day or evening and now you can. Giselle knows what the customer needs and wants!!

Review - Smashbox Rapture Eyeshadow and Brush Set

This get-gorgeous set includes 16 luminous shadows and 2 full-size metallic pink brushes for flawless application. The inspiring shades allow you to create an endless array of beautiful eye looks that take you from day to night.

Movie Maven says: Smashbox's eyeshadow colors are, on the whole, to die for. Gorgeous options abound, which is why this Rapture Eyeshadow and Brush Set really is a great deal. Of the colors you see above, I got to try the green and gold (go Packers) set and the shadow brush. I thought the green would be a little deeper based on the photos I'd seen online - it's dustier than I anticipated, more muted, but still a lovely color. The sheer, shimmery gold that goes with it is great for highlighting, or for wearing alone when you don't need as much drama. The shadow stayed on pretty well - when I wore it with a little concealer underneath as a base, it not only stayed on longer, but the color was more intense, which was nice. The brush is fairly standard, with soft bristles. The funny thing is that I found myself using the Smashbox brush with some other eyeshadows more than with the green and gold Smashbox shadows I got, simply because the brush is a little on the large size, and these duos are pretty small. I ended up using a smaller brush to apply the Smashbox eyeshadow. All in all, a great color combo!

Sheba says: I received the Silver combination and let me say -- it applies very nicely and has staying power. I did use a primer first as I have become addicted to them. It is a perfect combination for hazel eyes -- but then I would think it would make blue eyes pop. Come to think of it -- I bet it would really just enhance almost any eye color. But then, remember if you have the whole kit you can just select another combination. There are so many that you will find several that work for your eyes. You will have a difficult time trying to decide -- but then you don't have to decide. You can wear different combinations on different days!! The Smashbox Rapture Eyeshadow and Brush Set is an incredible deal at only $59 for all that Eye Candy.

CitySlicker Says: I am a big fan of Smashbox Cosmetics so there is pretty much at least one of their products in my rotation. Their shadows are rich and velvety, I got what looks like the bottom on the right, it’s a golden brown color called luminous golden brown and a peachy nude highlighter called shimmery champagne. They are a great combo that complements one another. I have been using the peachy color on my lips and the darker color as a liner. The shadows melt into my lips and give a nice shimmery sparkle without looking overly shimmery – perfect for day or night. They stay on feel light as air. The pot is easy to tote around and very deep so this will last a long time.

Deedlejuse says: Goodness I do love Smashbox! I think that my favorite part is that they make really use-able colors and then pair them in a very user friendly way. I have the navy/white combo pot and am happy to report that these easy to wear colors work perfectly with my hazel eyes. The only thing that I might ask is for them to be a little more shimmery, because if you've ever read my reviews I live for shine, but these colors are opaque (in a great way) and so good for day to day wear. Really I don't think you can go wrong when you go for Smashbox, you sort of know it is going to be a great product! I wish I had them all.

Hillary says: For me, Smashbox means quality. It also means the latest and greatest colors. And the cherry on top, I can actually afford Smashbox, unlike some of the other brands I see at Sephora and Dept. stores. I'm not at all cheap when it comes to buying cosmetics, but I've got to feel as if I'm getting something worth my money. Smashbox eyeshadows stay the day (into the night) and come in colors that are both practical (in that they look good on) and trendy. The brush I got (Definer Brush) is perfect for putting on your darkest color right near the lashes (at least that's what I use it for). The brushes are top notch, not too soft, not too firm like a cheap brush. And unlike some cheaper brushes I have, they keep their shape. I have a special place in my heart for Smashbox and I can't wait to see what they come out with next!

Amanda S. Says: I have the "Enchanting" split color of this shadow. This is, by far, my favorite eyeshadow I have ever used. It goes on so beautifully and smooth, it feels weightless, never creases or flakes off, and lasts for an entire eye rubbing day at work. I have paid embarrassingly large amounts of money for eye shadows that worked well in the past. I have very sensitive eyes, and they are a very pale blue color. If my eye make up gets screwy, I end up looking crazy eyed and un-human. Smashbox is my new 'go to' for shadow. the white makes my eyes look bright even when I have panda-like circles under them, and the purple-ish color goes really great with my dark blue eyeliner and black mascara. It seriously, no joke, stays on for 9 hours or longer. If you have eye shadow issues, go for this stuff!

Review - Nvey Organic Eye Shadow

Finely milled with an extra soft base of Corn Silk and Jojoba Oil, NVEY ECO, Organic Eye Shadows can be used in combination to enhance and contour the eye or individually for a flush of color. $24.00
.
I have been wearing this religiously on my lids for a couple of weeks. I was torn about the wording to relay to everyone so I waited then I thought check their site and see what they are telling everyone. Well, they are dead on! “Finely milled with an extra soft base”, words that lit me up! I completely agree. This is a very soft and smooth shade; it spreads on and feels velvety. This stuff is amazing; I have it in Pink Carnation Shimmer. It really opens up my eyes and gives me a bright vibrant look even it I look beat in the morning. It stays on and doesn’t feather, I find that not only do I have no feathering but I have only minimal creasing by the day’s end. Really nice and, yes, expensive but worth every eye popping swipe!

Review- L'Oreal Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Quad

Wear Infinite Quads provide 4 shades that easily blend together, creating the perfect eye look. Each luxuriously designed compact contains crease-proof, fade-resistant, ultra-blendable color with a soft, silky feel.

In case anyone missed me, a few weeks ago the roof and ceiling of my apartment fell in. Yes, it fell in on a day that it was raining, and subsequently, it rained in my kitchen, living room and bathroom. Oh, and when they came to fix it, a nice man's foot came through my hallway ceiling and my roommate could see his sad little leg dangling perilously through the hole. So that was how my November panned out. The reason I'm telling you this is because I have spent the past few weeks in a state of home disarray. No lights in certain rooms, water all over the place, things covered in plastic. Putting on make-up with no mirror and when you have a mirror, improper lighting, can be a nightmare. I had to pare down to the basics. I pulled out this eyeshadow and thought, L'Oreal doesn't seem to ever mess up. All their products are good. So I used this eyeshadow for a week, and no other shadow at all, (I have the color quad 'earthscapes') and of course, it made all the difference. You've gotta love L'Oreal. It went on easily, stayed where it was supposed to, and didn't give me any problems. It also looked great.

Review- Nars Eyeshadow

"Longwearing, crease resistant color in sheer wearable formulas. All NARS eyeshadows can be applied sheer or layered for a more dramatic effect. These richly pigmented powders blend effortlessly and can also be used wet for precisely lining the eyes.
Richly pigmented powders
Effortless blending
Multifunction: use as eyeshadow, eyeliner and on eyebrows" $22

If I had to make only one statement about this product (and to make only one would be hard), it would be "Nars Eyeshadow stays on until you take it off". That may not sound like such an important statement, but when a shadow stays on for as long as you want it to, you've got something worth it's money. The color I've got is Fez. It is a slightly shimmery bronze/ chocolate brown (a dark bronze if you will). It looks more metallic in the pan than it comes out on the eye. It is the perfect color for shading creases (as the nice make-up artist at the Nars counter showed me). I wear it with yellow on the top of my lid and Fez on the bottom. The other day when I was wearing this combo, someone in my class said my make-up looked like it was done professionally. I truly believe the Nars shadow is to thank.

Review - Naked Cosmetics Eyeshadow

Naked Cosmetics are basically very high quality all natural cosmetics that are non-allergenic and apparently are nothing but oxidized mica. I don't know how exactly that is possible looking at all the colors, but obviously I am not a chemist, so I won't argue. I will just be happy that I have this awesome shadow! The color I tested is called SN-01, and it is a beautiful iridescent pink with purple undertones. I used it as a brightening all-over shadow, but it was especially useful in highlighting the eyebrow. When I applied it a little heavier by itself it looked nice and stayed for hours, but was a little pale for my complexion. My skin is very light, and I am blond so the shade was really pretty as a light dusting, I actually also tried it on some friends with darker skin tones and it looked beautiful. This tone would look awesome on any complexion. This shadow will stay in my daily-use make-up bag until it is gone! Love it!

CitySlicker Says: The color I got is from the Sierra Nevada collection in SN-05.. It's a gorgeous deep golden brown.. When I see this I think this is what Kim Kardashian wears, she always has the most beautiful deep brown hues that sparkle in the light. My skin tone is pale and my eyes are hazel. I found that I would apply a light swipe on my lids or in the crease or layer for a more dramatic look, the color has a lot of sparkle but it's not teeny bopper, it's definitely a cut above. This goes on so light and airy that Naked Cosmetics is the perfect name. I have been wearing this off and on for a couple of weeks. I do think that it stays on throughout the day with a little wear. It is easy to layer at the end of the day too, so if I am going out I can pop some more on and it never looks Tammy Faye Bakerish, it looks fresh and new. I have also worn as a liner with a damp brush for a more defined look. I did notice with that by the end of the day the oil from my skin did not keep it in the sharp line. The color melted into my lid and the intensity diminished but it was still pretty. There are a plethora of colors to choose from so there is a color for everyone out there and I am betting that the lighter colors could be used on the lips with a clear gloss for a little bit of drama.

Amanda S. Says: I didn't think that such a heavy and dark eye shadow would work with my super light colored eyes, but wow, this stuff is really easy to use and looked great. Instead of creasing and getting all weird and smudgy (I have major issues with eye shadows sort of flaking off on me or not blending very well, maybe I have weird eyelids???) but wow, it smoothed on super easy and didn't take over my entire eye area or smudge when I inevitably rubbed my eyes in weariness at work. I will definitely buy more of this because I have such eyeshadow nightmares that I need something awesome to use to cheer myself up.

Joyce says: I tried Champagne (SN-02). Though this product definitely has a smooth texture and goes on easily so thin eye tissue isn’t pulled, I found it was just a bit too glittery for my comfort level . . . or, perhaps, it’s more a matter of preferring matte finishes on my skin. Skin tone does have to be heeded the longer we’re on the planet; and maybe it’s more about my wanting to be viewed a certain way. I tend to identify sparkly cosmetics as more appropriate for those in their 30s and younger. All that inner revelation aside, the texture and stay-on qualities say, “Go for it!”

Review - Mineral Essence Eyeshadow and Brush

"Whether you want a hint of subtle color, a splash of glamour or simply want to accentuate your natural beauty; these velvety smooth, crease-proof formulas offer a variety of gorgeous, long-lasting effects to choose from."

This loose mineral eyeshadow, made from natural ingredients and enriched with vitamins, is a nice product. I'm not going to say it's my new obsession, but it's definitely Top Ten material. I got it in 24K, which (as you might infer) is a gold shade. In the package, it appears to be a rather sheer gold, but once you put it on, the color is richer than anticipated, making it better for a night out on the town than a day at the office. When I did put it on, though, it stayed in place for the day, but not into the night - a girl might need to reapply if she decided to rock the gold for more than just a few hours. Since I'll be using this for evenings from now on, however, I don't see that as a drawback. My favorite feature of this product was actually the packaging: instead of dipping the eyeshadow brush (sold separately) directly into the powder, a shaker top is provided underneath the lid, allowing you to shake out just a little, making it easier to load up the right amount on your brush. Speaking of the brush - it's a fine little guy, with soft bristles that let you capture enough of the loose powder to put on, but it's also easy to knock a bit off if you find you've overdone it. Overall, a solid product.

Deedlejuse Says: I got this eyeshadow in Chocolate, a perfect shade for lining the eyes. The brush I received was also a lining brush so they must have meant for it to act as a liner. The brush is really nice, very fine so you have plenty of control, and it has a smudge sponge on the end. The eyeshadow is kind of hard to use. I'm not that good at applying loose powder eyeshadow, so I have to be really careful with such a precise line. It stays on for most of the day though, and is pretty highly pigmented so you only need to use one or two layers to get a defined line. In the future I might try a shade that is more for all over coverage (I'd like to try the 24K!) because I really like the idea and the product, I just don't trust myself with lining via mineral.

CitySlicker Says: I didn’t get a shadow but I got the Mineral Essence Shimmer in Pure Bronze – when you see the color online the color I received is much deeper and a lot more bronzy. This can be used on the lips, face and eyes so I am pretty psyched about that! A three in one for only $16.00... The pot is small so when using this with my big bronzer brush I have trouble tapping the excess back into the pot so I do it over a clean piece of paper to be able to funnel the extras right back to where they belong. This product instantly gives my face a warm glow that truly gives off a healthy complexion. I have used a little on my eyes more like a liner and with my hazel eyes it brings out the golden flecks, very pretty if I say so myself. I find that this wears throughout the day on my face but when using on the eyes it does feather and spread a little so the next time I applied I used it with a damp brush and got all day wear out of it. This line has something for everyone with price points that don’t make you cringe... This will last forever and it’s filled with lots of shimmer for all you gals that like reflecting qualities...

Sheba says: My Mineral Essence Eyeshadow selection is Mocha. Let me say I have been dying to try a shadow in this color range since watching different makeup artists on various television shows. They use a multitude of colors. Yet, I have noticed any color/shade near this particular shade gave a beautiful definition to most any color eye and I noticed they use it to highlight also. At first I thought it was boring until I saw just what they were able to accomplish with it. My eyes are hazel and I first used my Laura Geller primer which I have already raved about in its own review. Next I applied this shadow and Movie Maven is dead on about the shaker top -- it is so much easier to use it with that in place! It really went on so smoothly and the primer helped to disguise some of the crepes in my skin there--the shadow looks terrific. I tried it different ways on different days. One day -- fully on the lids. Another day, in the crease and another as a highlighter. I could not mess up with it: it worked and looked wonderful no matter what I did with it. The color has perfect intensity and it does make your eyes pop -- in a very good way. The price is reasonable, especially for the quality of the product you get.

Review- Smashbox Wicked Lovely Cream Liner and Loose Shimmer

Three sultry cream liners and a sparkling loose shimmer in one mirrored pot! The liners provide totally customizable eye definition that doesn’t flake, run or tug. This mistake-proof formula is a great tool for the perfect smoky eye, and is ultra-blendable to create a range of eye looks! The loose shimmer provides the finishing touch for wickedly lovely eyes.

If you like the look of a smokey eye (and who doesn't), this is a fool proof all-in-one kit. You can wear one or all of the eyeliners and finish the look with the Metallic Taupe loose eyeshadow. The shadow has the perfect amount of shimmer, is totally wearable and well pigmented. I can see it matching any skin tone. The eyeliner colors are nice and rich and last all day which I don't usually find with cream eyeliners. I call this product fool proof because the colors are so well matched, any combination will provide that smokey eye we all crave now and then. This is a must-have for fall.

Review - Smashbox Wicked Lovely Eyeshadow

Sweep these luxurious, shimmering shadow duos across lids for a truly smoldering look. $24.00

All I can say is LOVELY. These shadows are velvety smooth and highly pigmented. They have a rich almost creamy feeling when applying. A light swipe and I have enough on my lid. The colors are a shimmery ivory and shimmery steel gray that can be layered for a severely smoky black look. I love both colors and find that they wear all day and stand up to the hot summer. I don’t reapply or touch up. I wear them mostly by using the charcoal gray close to the lash line and with a deep line then feathering it out then using the ivory tone in the crease and a little at the brow bone. It really makes my eyes pop and is very modern and cool looking. I highly recommend looking into the Wicked Lovely Shadow... $24 is a small price to pay for these are deep pots that will last a very long time. They go on so smooth and you will be hooked!

Joyce says: Do I ever agree with my fellow Blogger about this eye shadow duo. From the first time I used it, it’s been the only one I’ve used every day. I love how a dampened eyeliner brush lets me either use it as a liner, or if the brush is dry, to create a soft, smokey look (or both techniques). And she took the word “pop” right out of my typing fingers. The combination of the ivory and smokey charcoal (almost black) duo called Gala really does make my hazel eyes pop and smolder at the same time. Love it, love it, love it!
