Review - L'Occitane Hibiscus Flower Shea Hand Cream

She went to Tahiti the summer after her sophomore year of college. "All alone?" her friends asked her. Alone, she told them, she could have an adventure. Her grandmother had given her enough money to sustain a few months in a tropical climate, so off she went.

First off, this body butter comes in the most lovely packaging. The box is sturdy and cute, and the pump-action body butter dispenser is much classier than the tubs you normally see with this sort of thick creamy lotion. The other nice thing about it is that it's not super-greasy - just soft and smooth. I don't need a lot of lotion due to my oily skin, so often lotions leave residue, but not this one. It's a bit pricey for an everyday lotion, but it would make a killer gift since the packaging is so pretty. It comes in four scents, as you can see above, and I tested it in Lavender, which smelled exactly as you'd think it would.

I know I frequently say this about various body butters and creams that we review on this site, but seriously: I COULD EAT THIS LOTION. I shouldn't even really call it a lotion, because it is so much more than that. It's so creamy I don't know what to do with myself. If you put it in a pie crust, I would probably eat it (and then be like "why are you wasting this body cream in my mouth when it should be hydrating my dry skin? Give me some strawberry rhubarb pie instead.") It smells ridiculously amazing (if you like coconut, but then again, why would you even consider buying this if you don't like coconut), and is perfect for after the shower. My one caveat is that if you, like me, take your showers before bedtime, give yourself some time to just sit and hydrate before getting into bed.

Movie Maven says: You know all those times when you're drinking a delicious cup of Celestial Seasonings' Lemon Zinger tea and you say to yourself, "Hey - I think my WHOLE BODY should smell as good as this tea," so you pour the scalding hot tea all over your body, and burn yourself, and then you don't even smell that much like the tea? Okay, maybe not. But if you're like me, and you love herbal tea, so much so that you want that aroma on your person, look no further than Jason Natural's Lemon Zinger. This is synergy at its finest, people. The tea folks and the lotion folks got together and made a product that is better than either one alone! It won't keep you warm on a cold winter's night like the tea, but it will certainly keep you moisturized on a dry winter's day (or night), and give you a kicky citrus scent along with it. Overall, this is a fairly run-of-the-mill body lotion - nothing to write home about - but the scent truly is terrific. Plus, it comes in three other tea-based scents, including Sleepytime! Review- Shea Moisture Raw Organic Body Lotion

Historical references to Shea Butter, a staple of African pharmacology, date back to the reported Shea Butter caravans of Cleopatra's Egypt. Frankincense, known for its toning and anti-aging properties, also as aromatherapeutic benefits, promoting mental strenght. Myrrh, a superior cosmetic ingredient in ancient remedies, can be dated to an Ebers papyrus (circa 1580BC) recipe for a facial mask.

I bought a bottle of this frankincense and myrrh scented body lotion off the cuff from Duane Reade (the major drug store chain in NYC, for those that don't know) without knowing anything about it, or having ever heard of the company. I have tried all natural raw shea butter in the past from street vendors with good results, but I found it hard to store/use (or, if I found a suitable organic version in a store, I found it to be WAY too expensive!). I'm really impressed with the body lotion so far and now plan on going back and trying a few other products by the Shea Moisture company that I also saw on the shelf. The lotion absorbs really fast with no sticky/greasy feeling and has a beautiful natural scent that lingers just long enough to sooth your senses. I've been putting this on all week before bed, especially on my beat up feet, and other than the faithful almond oil I use on my skin, this is the best moisturizer for my feet and hands that I've found to date. I highly recommend it for sun-affected skin also.

Review- Danielle and Company Hand & Body Lotion

When it comes to body lotion- I can be oddly demanding. It has to smell nice, moisturize without being too heavy, and make me feel silky, finally on top of everything else - it has to last! That is a tall order, even I know it, but with lotion I get strangely picky...With that said, Danielle And Company's Pure Oats Hand and Body Lotion makes the grade! In all top categories, this lotion passes all my tests with flying colors. Not to mention that it is also made with organic ingredients, which is an A+ in my eyes. Okay, at first, it does rub on a bit heavy for me on the hands as I don't like to feel sticky at all after applying lotion. But, and this is the best part, it does dry smoothly (eventually) and even after washing my hands, the lotion is still on, leaving my hands even softer than before! Major plus for me as I wash my hands a lot. Even better than the overtime moisturizing, the scent is amazingly glorious! I love this smell! I could sleep in it! The best way to describe the Pure Oats scent, which is meant to relax, calm and soothe, is that it reminds me a bit of soft baby powder mixed with the sweet fragrance of play-doh (in a good way!) Total innocent bliss and joy, while relaxing and calming the senses as well. This scent alone makes the lotion a winner, but I can't forget its long-lasting durability. Definitely worth a try for those two reasons alone, and at $4 for the travel size you can't go wrong!

Amanda S. Says: I can't believe this lotion is so inexpensive! I too am super picky about body lotions, I'd rather throw out an entire bottle and lose the money spent on it than suffer through any moisturizer that doesn't work near perfectly for my skin. It does take a bit to soak in, but it's worth it. For the cost, it's a great all natural lotion.

Deedlejuse Says: I am constantly surprised, and pleased with Danielle and Company's products. This morning I used a beautiful glycerin soap in cucumber and then moisturized with the Oats Organic Body Lotion. I smell delicious, feel moisturized, and when used right after the shower the lotion totally soaks in instantly and feels great! The smell of my lotion is quite strong, but not in a bad way. You just really have to be in the mood to smell like oats, not oatmeal mind you, just a sort of clean fresh oat smell. I really like it. This lotion I would say is better as an all over body lotion than a hand cream, but I do like it for both. Everything I have tried from Danielle and Co. has been stellar and I love the Women Power image and the naturalness of it all! Another job well done!

Malikah says: I really loved the texture and feel of the lotion. Its rich and creamy, but still manages not to be heavy or greasy. It gives your skin great moisture, and the lightweight formula is perfect for summer. I tried to Lavender and Spearmint scent, and wasn't too big a fan of the fragrance. I love the scent of lavender, but it was too heavy on the spearmint and reminded me a bit of Wrigley's Doublemint gum. Plus the scent stays put pretty much all day, which is great if its a scent you love. I am a bit torn on this one - the fragrance really isn't working for me at all, but I love the feel of this lotion so much! This is going to be a tough decision . . .

Sultana says: I've never had the pleasure of using Danielle & Company products before. I tried the Lavender and Spearmint lotion. I was in LOVE with this lotion!! I am big on scents that lasts. Whether its perfume, lotion or shower gel it has to have a scent that lasts long. I was with my kids when I tried this and when I put it on, they asked "Mommy, what is that?" I asked if they wanted to try and of course they jumped at the chance. They absolutely loved the minty smell. I found that I felt a little invigorated but relaxed at the same time after using this. The smell lasted a long time. As a matter of fact, I can't remember when it went away. With a $4 price tag, this is a win-win situation for me!

Josephine says: You guys. I am so sorry. Aside from Malikah's review, which mine looks more like, I wish I could add more positive words for this lotion but my experience of it was not as good, albeit comical to some degree. Let me start with what I did like, though: I think the consitency and actual moisture the lotion provides is great. I like this company from what I have seen and I would excitedly try other products of theirs if given the chance. Moving on. I, too, have the Lavender& Spearmint flavor and this is the source, cause and origin of my distaste of this lotion. I knew before I even pressed the pump that I probably wasn't going to be a fan, mostly because I liken this combo of oils to a mild mildew odor. I waited to try it until I hopped out of the shower one night, nary a trace of a scent of any other kind to comingle with this stuff lest my opinion be wrongly influenced. Within 5 seconds, I was inspecting the shower curtain liner for mold and asking the hub in the other room is he smells anything stale coming from the bathroom. Within 5 minutes, all I could think was that I was wearing a straight up dish rag. The hub provided his olfactory experience to offset my prejudice and exclaimed that I smelled "strangely minty, kind of like Bengay." Not a ringing endorsement, either, really.

This super rich lotion left my skin smooth and supple instantly. I was kind of wary of the olive oil based formula, thinking it would be really greasy and make me smell like a salad. However the creamy lotion kept my skin moisturized all day and the fragrance is light and pleasant, but won't compete with your perfume. Even my boyfriend approved of the fresh, simple scent. Plus, a little bit goes a long way so the bottle should last you awhile. I'm utterly obsessed with this lotion and would definitely splurge on the large bottle.

Review- Bodycology Body Lotion (Coconut Lime)

The sweet scent of coconut mingles with refreshing lime to help relive stress and tension -- like a tropical island getaway.

I got a little sample of this in the mail, and I *love* coconut scented products. It's probably one of my most favorite scents, even in winter (I'm not known for being seasonally accurate ... OK??). And sure, it's a typical, run of the mill, body lotion. It worked well, kept my skin soft all day, yadda yadda like most body lotions you can buy at a drug store. BUT THE SMELL!!!!!!!! Oh my lord, the smell! It smells so delicious two, yes TWO people asked me during the day what I was wearing that smelled so delicious and awesome. (one was a total stranger on the subway!). If you like fruity smelling lotions, or if you love coconut, you will completely love this stuff.

Decleor just never seems to dissappoint me. I literally have never tried a Decleor product that I wasn't happy with, this is no exception. It has a light, ever-so-slightly floral scent which doesn't compete with perfumes, but is pleasant on it's own. It has the consistency of a thick lotion, but glides on and absorbs completely. It only takes a few days of use to see a vast difference in your skin's moisture level. Vitamin E, Panthenol and Plant Glycoproteins are just a few of the "good for your skin" ingredients. I only have one problem with this cream, the price. I could not normally afford a body lotion that cost $45, but if you can, I would definitely give this one a try as the feel of this cream is heavenly.

Deedlejuse Says: I have to agree completely with Hillary! This Body Milk is the most interesting consistancy. It feels like a milky rich cream, but glides on more like a lotion and doesn't leave your skin feeling oily or greasy in any way (which is awesome!) The smell is very light, like Hillary says, but is just beautiful and feminine. While I agree that it is quite expensive I thought that I needed to use much less of this Body Milk than other body moisturizers for a wonderful effect. One pump fully moisturizes a whole limb (and I tend to get very dry in the winter) and I definitely noticed a difference in the eleasticity of my skin. I would say that if you can get this product you will be completely thrilled with the results. At least I was!

So, obviously, I have tried a ton of different body lotions. Some were busts, some were awesome, but I have to say this AHAVA Mineral Body Lotion tops the list. AHAVA has been working with mineral and clay cosmetics for years, and they seem to totally get what my skin needs to be moisturized, plump, and beautiful. With the first application I noticed a difference in my skin's resiliency and feel. After a month I am totally sold, I feel like I could take on the world! In the winter months my skin gets so dry, I usually have flaky patches that itch and feel irritated. They always go away in the summer, but regardless of the lotion I use they generally come back in the winter. These patches go away right after I use most lotions, but by the end of the day I will feel them reappear. With my Ahava Mineral Lotion I have skipped two days (just to experiment) and no spots! It is the most luxurious feel, and it smooths in directly, without much effort at all. The smell is sort of perfumy, which I could see as being an issue for some people. It basically smells exactly like Laura Ashley No.1. Those of you who love that fragrance, and haven't been able to find it will be psyched! For others who don't know what it is, it has an undertone of musk with a fruity top (current I think). It is noticeable, and will last with you for a good long time. Don't let this deter your from the Lotion, though. It is amazing and so worth the price!

Review - Eminence Organics Mimosa Champagne Body Lotion

Thank goodness I live in New York, where brunch is an institution. Brunch is my favorite meal, for several reasons. I love breakfast foods (pretty much all of them). Brunch is later in the day than breakfast, so you get to sleep later. But most of all: I love drinking in the morning. It feels sort of subversive while at the same time being totally socially acceptable. And my favorite brunch drink is the old classic, the mimosa. So when I saw this Mimosa Champagne Body Lotion, I got pretty excited. And you know what? It totally smells like a mimosa. What!?! I was amazed, y'all. It's that perfect blend of tart citrus and sweet champagne that make the real mimosa so good that make this lotion delectable to smell. Now, I'm sure the grapes and citrus oils have benefits beyond just making me want french toast, like antioxidants, but honestly, I just really, really like the way this lotion smells. Get it. And have some bacon.

Deedlejuse Says: I have to agree with Movie Maven on how nice this lotion smells. While it has that citrusy-champagne smell it is definitely subtle, which is my favorite part. I can't stand a lotion that is so strong that I have to decide which perfume I am going to wear around the smell, and luckily there was no problem with this Body Lotion! It also made my skin feel really nice, we got a very small sample, so I had to be rather stingy, but for how long I was able to use it the results were great. Aaaannnddd... It's organic, sigh, how could you ask for more?


CitySlicker Says: Crisp, clean and citrusy is how I describe this lotion. I think it's a little thicker than the normal body lotion I use. The sample I got wasn't enough to cover my legs to I ended up using this on my elbows, knees and hands. I applied after showering in the hopes of locking in moisture for the entire day. This does the job and makes my skin feel silky smooth. This is a really nice creamy lotion that absorbs quickly and has just the right amount of fragrance, its not too perfumy or overbearing. I can't stress how much I really like the smell. YUMMY! I wish I had access to more of the Eminence line, everything looks wonderful and the ingredients to die for!

Says: I love the smell of this lotion, it doesn't seem like it's even perfumed, but it's got this great fruity subtle scent.  I'm picky with lotions and I would hate to recommend something that doesn't work well enough for dry skin, because once the cycle starts, it's really hard to repair and start over again in the right place. I can safely say this is a great moisturizer. These scaly patches on my shins haven't gone away in over 4 months, and they're finally gone! They were getting so bad I was afraid I would have discolorations there by the time spring came. What a huge relief. That should be enough evidence for most people, considering the loads of things I've used to try and stop the madness.

I have been using this for almost a week now and it glides on smoothly and is absorbed quickly. This particular lotion doesn't seem to have any fragrance, or if there is one, it is very faint which is very nice. I find this lotion to be ideal, especially in these winter months with heat just drying you up!! I am a little leery of using it in the summer since it does not contain SPF protection which I believe it critical in any skin care regime. Perhaps they will 'improve' it before the summer months and add some protection--it would definitely attract more users if that is included. Right now I am very comfortable as I do not use it on my face and my body is completely covered whenever I am outside so I have no fear of sun damage. This is a serious lotion -- it really does perform very well. My skin is letting me know that it enjoys the moisture it provides. . . it is so soft and silky!! I have always found that Vitamin E nourishes my skin and it is one of the ingredients included. If they do not add SPF protection I might consider using this along with some SPF protection. However, it is ideal when they are combined!!

Cityslicker says: I have used this in the past - once again I am not disappointed! This is a miracle worker on the skin. I read that this was created for a woman in Japan who suffered from dry cracking skin and she also didn’t want a petroleum based product. Well, I am on board with that train of thought and don't want petroleum based products either. The first thing you will notice is the rich thickness of the cream. I have used it on the elbows, feet and knees. The rich cream envelops my skin and absorbs quickly, leaving my skin feeling lightly coated and protected. This does last and the hand cream, if you lightly wash your hands, remains on. The cream stays on and leaves my skin feeling so hydrated. I also want to mention that once you rub it into the skin the scent dissipates and is gone all that is left – moisture... Oh, yeah one other thing this is wonderful to use at night on feet with socks. They aren’t all slippery in the morning but they are soft and smooth...

Deedlejuse Says: I must begin by telling you that I had a sample of this body lotion, and I don't know if the others did too but I really didn't get enough to give you a fully rounded review. What I will say is that I had some scratchy patches on my arms and thighs that completely cleared up after two applications of this lotion. It is not particularly thick, but it really sinks in quickly and leaves your skin feeling incredibly moisturized. It doesn't leave you feeling like there is an extra layer left with you, just like you have naturally wonderfully moisturized skin. My problem with it is the smell. I absolutely can't believe that Sheba didn't notice a smell, because it really bowled me over! I am particularly sensitive to smell, however, so if you aren't a smell freak you should be fine with it. It smells basically like Vicks Vapo-Rub, awesome when your under the weather or if you love Eucalyptus, but if it isn't your favorite smell you might be a little turned off. The results speak for themselvs, though. I would take Cityslicker's advise and take advantage of the free samples before you decide to purchase!

Amanda S. Says: What else can I say? This is a great moisturizer. I tend to use a lot of oils on my skin to avoid weird ingredients (like petroleum products). In the dry winter months, I find myself in a state of desperation, trying to balance keeping my body safe and keeping myself from peeling like a creepy lizard. This lotion is a great balance. I especially like using it after taking a bath, because the lack of fragrance doesn't interfere with the smell of bath oils and such. I loved this enough to buy a bottle for my mother's friend as a gift and she too loves it.

I was skeptical at first, I have to admit, because the smell is SUPER natural, and it threw me. Also I applied it for the first time to dry cool skin, so it stayed really sticky and never completely dried, which did not leave me enthusiastic. But.... If you apply right after a nice warm shower right after toweling off it will dry completely, and not leave a hint of scent. Your skin will be beautifully moisturized and rejuvenated, and the best part is you really don't need a lot. I love this product, definitely on my Christmas list!

Recently I have been having some very good luck with my Bath & Body selections. I think everyone has found some of their products to have a phony or fake tone to their fragrances. Some might be too perfumy. Most are very good products with excellent scents or fragrances to them. Sea Island Cotton Body Lotion is one of the better ones. It is a very fresh, clean smelling lotion and it leaves your skin in very good condition. It is absorbed pretty readily by my skin which,in turn, feels very soft and silky right away. The cost is average for a body lotion and you can definitely get many other products in the same scent if you want to. As I said, it is a very pleasant, refreshing scent and it is not overbearing. It will not fight with your cologne selection for the day. I actually find that it can be enhanced by one of my all time favorites, Clean Perfume.

Nature's Embrace Organics products are truly unique. Never before have I come across a line so committed to natural ingredients. They show that it is possible to make a quality product without using chemicals that aren't good for your skin. The body lotion is scented lavendermint which I thought I wasn't going to like to be honest, but the combination is surprisingly pleasant and the two scents go well together, smelling very natural. It's very emollient and after several days of using it, my "chicken skin" was seriously diminished. It glides over the skin very well and it doesn't leave you feeling sticky or "smothered" like some creams can. The price may seem a little steep, but go to the website and read the ingredients list and you'll see that it's worth every penny.

Again - I will start by saying, I am not usually one who goes for natural products. Trial and error has shown me that natural and me just don't go together all that well (weird, huh?) so I did not have the highest hopes for the body lotion. I had used the facial cleanser and liked that so I thought - what the heck, maybe I'll like the lotion as well. And lo and behold, I did. I will say it is extremely light. Not heavy, greasy or anything like that - you won't drop a glass as soon as you pick it up. You just feel softly moisturized. I'm not a big lavender scent either, but I was not bothered by the scent - it's just a clean, natural scent. My caveat would be that it may not be enough for my skin as the colder weather gets here. Not sure if it will work as effectively as the heavy duty winter moisturizers that I live in, but we'll see. I would highly recommend this line to anyone who was truly committed to using all natural, environment-friendly products. I'm not sure if there is a more natural brand out there with such a lovely line of products.

There isn’t too much more I can add to the comments made by my fellow bloggers about this product. My skin feels so silky when I use it. The scent is definitely light and fresh (I’d enjoy standing next to someone on the subway who smelled like this product). Personally, I never like any scent I’m wearing to be overpowering; I want someone to be ReallyClose before they know I’m wearing it. I do, however, wish there was a heavier version of this for winter weather. I agree with Maria: When the weather switches to cold and we have to deal with that and indoor heating, I Want Grease! And I prefer organics to synthetics.

After a week of use, my skin stopped feeling itchy and dry like it usually does when the temperature drops in the fall.

I love the blend of the mint and lavender. I believe the mint is the stronger component so if you are looking for more relaxing lavender scent this does have more mint to it. I found this lotion to be extremely loose in consistency, it’s runny. I think that when applying to my body it seems like it instantly evaporated into my skin but didn’t leave me skin feeling the usual moisturized and plump. I think this felt like it wasn’t even there. My skin wasn’t tight or uncomfortable but just seems like an invisible coat, I had no problem getting dressed after use. I don’t believe this is for me, if you are looking for light moisture this is a good option!

This is another product that I got from Arbonne and this by far is the superior one. I have NEVER used a body product like it. In the tub it looks like a typical body cream; when I first touch it feels like a light whipped moisturizer and when I first applied I knew this was something different. It feels velvety soft and absorbs just about instantly leaving not a smidge of oiliness or greasiness behind! My skin instantly feels like a baby’s bottom, super soft and smooth, it’s great all over and the results last. I am totally in love with this product and will re-buy over and over... It’s got a light ocean clean scent that isn’t over powering. I swear one touch and you will be a believer. I have had my container umm maybe 3 weeks and I am at the bottom. Run and check it out!

This lotion was given to me by a very generous person. A relative was undergoing a particular chemotherapy treatment that was drying his skin so badly that it was flaking all over . All the lotions and creams I owned barely touched the dryness. The chemo is noted for this side effect but we were surprised at the actual degree of dryness. Once he started applying this lotion there was a very noticeable difference. His skin stopped flaking completely -- it was definitely less dry than it had been and it started to feel moist after using this for a while. Yes, it is definitely more expensive than I would normally spend. However, this was not a normal situation. It was embarassing to him. It was not just his body -- but his face that was flaking so badly until he used this. He has since stopped that chemo and his skin has returned to normal so I have inherited the lotion. I love it. Maybe there is a reason for its cost. My skin feels so, so soft and silky and very moist. It just feels wonderful -- I do not need a lot so I am stretching it out as long as I can. Perhaps when I need more I will justify the cost to myself. The results are really wonderful.

This lotion has a great scent, it reminds me of a creamsicle. It is fresh and yummy; it's a very sweet smelling orangey citrus. I have been applying this after showering. It’s a light lotion; it absorbs quickly, leaving soft skin behind. I honestly can apply and dress in 5 minutes; I find there is no down time or greasy feeling left behind. The scent seems strong when I pour it out but light on my body. I prefer to use it on my body rather than on my hands. I need something that has more emollient for the hands. I do have to mention that this seems to be a little expensive for the price.

When I first tried this hand lotion I thought, jeez... this is a bit runny, not very thick... And I just assumed it may be too thin to work on my dry hands and elbows. Um, I was seriously wrong. This lotion smells, in one word: AWESOME. I don't think I've ever used a lotion that smells this woody, natural and beautiful. It goes perfectly with the way I want my skin to smell, and on top of that, my hands were smooth for HOURS afterward, even after hand washing after hand washing at work and home while painting. I'm addicted to this stuff. Unlike strongly unnatural scented lotions, this is so subtle and beautiful. The scent lasts a long time but it just hints at itself. I am using this every day and my skin is loving it.

I have been using this lotion for some time. I've bought some very fake or imitation scents from Bath and Body but also they have some very genuine ones. This is one of the 'real' ones. It is a very good lotion as it does get absorbed pretty quickly. The scent is pretty powerful but I like it. It is not overpowering but it is strong. Since I enjoy the fragrance I do not mind and it does fade a little after a while. I would not use it with another fragrance as there would be a real conflict. However, I really do like it as it gives my skin very nice moisture - leaving it very soft and silky smooth.
