OK, so I am pretty young, 25, with no real sun damage to speak of so this Sunscreen was just so-so in my book. If I were older, and had more issues with my skin I might look past the irky little problems and hail it as a very powerful Sunscreen that completely protected my skin for hours and hours. It was much, much more effective than many 50+ sunblocks I have used in the past. So really, If you are looking for a really effective sunblock, and have $110 to blow for 1oz of it, knock yourself out, you have my recommendation.

My problems were with it's functionality, it is a double barreled pump applicator, and the white stuff (sunscreen) comes out WAY easier than the neon yellow stuff (Idebenone) so I had to pump it alot to get any of the yellow stuff, which wasted a good amount of the sunsrceen. It is like SO not waterproof/sweatproof. That being said, perhaps those of you who woud be buying something like this don't actually go swimming/play volley ball at the beach. If you do though, be aware it will definitely wash into your eyes instantly, and it really hurts. My last problem is the smell, it is a lingering, very strong smell of zinc oxide. It does rub in well, and like I said above lasts for hours with a great potency. So, all in all, I would not repurchase this sunscreen, but I can see it being the perfect fit for some people.

I am used to using a higher SPF but was happy to give this a whirl especially since it comes equipped with a bronzer! Who doesn’t love a 2 for 1 product? This has a scent that is more perfumy than sunscreeny. It had an initial creamy orange scent then dries down to a more light flowery scent with a touch of amber to it. The best feature is the bronze color so you can see where you are putting it. There isn’t a touch of greasiness; it dries down leaving my skin feeling powdery soft. The bronzer is light in color so if you a pale one then this will give your skin a slight bronze look. I found that the bronzer doesn’t have a lot of lasting power, it seems like it’s there then gone the next day. For the short money this is well worth the minimal investment. And for the plain and simple fact that it works and provides your skin with SPF 15 so you have some protection... I am also totally on board with the fact that there isn’t any greasy feeling also!

I’m not a sports enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination; I walk nearly everywhere I go and use the stairs—that’s enough for me. And now that the cool temps of autumn have arrived here, I’m covered. This means my ability to test this product as very water and sweat resistant is limited to either wearing it in the shower (not likely, as I take baths) or working up a sweat (also not likely, unless I engage in an energetic “romp”—hmmm . . .well, if it’s in the interest of “science” and blogging . . .). However, I’m using it as a body lotion. Based on this, I can tell you I like that it does moisturize the skin even though it’s oil-free (great for not messing up good fabrics), does give my skin a smoother look and feel, and it is fragrance-free but not totally scent-free . . . and the scent, though slightly summertime, is pleasant. If you want to wear something scented over it, it won’t interfere. I never thought to use a sunblock as a moisturizer before, but that’s usually because of that at-the-pool scent they generally have. I feel and smell as though I used talcum powder, without the mess or sneezing.

Notice the product title says Moisturizer. I took this literally and began to use it as a one. I do make it the second layer after using another moisturizer I blogged about recently, but I want to say I can see and feel the difference in smoother texture and little lines reduction. Also notice it has Retinol in it, a known anti-aging ingredient. And, you don’t have to worry about smelling like a sun care product; this lotion smells yummy . . . a scent you wouldn’t mind crawling into bed with or sitting next to in close quarters. When you consider what some sunblocks cost, the way they smell, and don't necessaryily have such lovely ingredients, or do more than block rays, it's amazing how reasonably this is priced.

This Ocean Potion Lip Potion SPF 45 feels wonderful on your lips. It is not waxy or stiff to apply. It is so creamy and easy on your lips or around your eyes or just about any delicate area that needs this SPF 45 protection. I have an Orange/Vanilla flavor which is one of my personal favorite scents so I am very happy with it. It does offer excellent protection from the sun. I know that I go through lipstick incredibly fast so I don't take any chances with sun protection -- I reapply frequently. In the past I have had serious sunburnt lips, etc. Never again -- with this terrific sunscreen potion for facial areas. The cost in minimal for the protection you are getting. Even applying this as frequently as I do- it lasts and lasts. If you are looking for serious lip protection from the sun you have found it with this Ocean Potion Lip Potion SPF 45.

I have used this Ocean Potion H2O Sport Continuous Spray SPF30 Instant Dry SPF 30 Mist several times now. I really like it -- it is so much less messy than your usual sun protection. It does not dry instantly but it does dry very quickly. Actually I think this is purposeful - it even mentions in the directions to watch for moist skin so that you know you have done that area. It has a pleasant scent to it that does for the most part fade pretty fast. A trace of fragrance is left along with the sun protection. It has the SPF 30 that is the least SPF recommended by many professionals. So many sun blocks are only 15 SPF which is useless to people who want real protection. It smartly recommends to reapply after being in the water, towel drying, etc. Most of all it does protect. I stayed out in the sun for a bit over an hour and was my usual pale self when I came in!! There was not even a tinge of red. I would defintely recommend this for those of us who like our sun protection to be easy to apply and much less messy to use. Like I mentioned, I used it several times and the can in still pretty full so I believe I will get my money's worth before I run out of it.

I have to (almost) completely agree with Sheba on this Sunscreen. The can I received was Extra Waterproof, but still probably a comparable product and I have to rave about it! I have actually used quite a few spray sunblocks in my time, I am a self proclaimed beach bum since I grew up on Nantucket....And this is the first one that actually really did "instantly" soak in. Most sprays stay really nasty and sticky for at least a while, but in some cases until you actually shower after the beach, who needs that??? This spray literally takes a second and the scent was light, but lingered for a little bit. The best part was that it really did not feel like I was wearing anything at all, even lotion, but I was completely protected. All in all my experience was really good. I stayed out in the sun for almost 6 hours each (5 or 6) time I used it, I did re-apply a few times each trip, but no burns or anything yet! Woohoo!!

I was really looking forward to using the Ocean Potion for Kids SPF 45. It's natural & it provides complete UVA/UVB protection. I do recommend this product for kids as it is very water & sweat resistant. For adults on the other hand, not so great. It comes out of the tube white and as you slather it on, it remains white and makes you look paler. Especially at the beach, no one wants to look extra pale. It also leaves white residue on things you hit with your arms and legs. Overall, this product has some good qualities (especially for kids), but I wasn't a big fan.

I have this in the Mineral Sunblock Active Wear SPF30, I am so pleased with it. I have been using on my face for over 2 weeks now. I can get away with just under a quarter’s sized amount. I know I should be using more but with the transition from summer to fall, I haven’t been outside as much. I have used more expensive mineral sunscreens and have to say for the money, go out and get a tube; I don’t think you’ll be disappointed at all. It takes a little longer to absorb into my skin but I don’t mind it at all. Once it’s absorbed I am not all greasy or oily feeling, it’s been easy to apply my foundation over too. I do think the formula is a little loose most sunscreens are a bit heavier / thicker in my opinion. I am thinking this is a great line for carrying in the purse; it’s affordable and works... I have experienced no breakouts or additional oil in the face area either, nice find!

The right tinted moisturizer has always been like Goldilocks' porridge for me - it should provide coverage, but not too much. It should have color, but not too much. It should be light, but not too light. Unfortunately, this Ocean Potion tinted sunblock doesn't really solve the riddle. At first, I was skeptical - after putting it on, my face felt super-greasy and swampy, but I think that may have been a result of the insane humidity this time of year. After a little while, it evened out and I felt like it provided okay coverage and wasn't too heavy. However: after wearing it for the whole day, it was collecting in the crevices of my nose a little bit and looking a little bizarre. Perhaps on someone with a different skin type, this product would work out, but on my combination-bordering-on-oily skin, it wasn't really what I was looking for.

Mario Badescu does it again! I swear I have not tried one Mario Badescu product that I didn't love, this is no exception. I have tried (& returned) every single SPF 30 moisturizer that they sell at Sephora & none of them were to my liking. This moisturizer doesn't have any of the downfalls of the others I've tried. First of all, it doesn't smell like sunscreen, in fact it has very little scent at all. It speads over your face smoothly and sinks in completely. The MB website says this is for combination and sensitive skin, but I have very dry skin and this delivers enough moisture for me. I know you are supposed to be generous when applying sunscreen but a little bit of this lotion covers my whole face. I'm not sure if you are supposed to, but I even use this as an eye cream with no irritation. I'm so happy I found this moisturizer!

This has become a “must” before I walk outside. I love the smoothes-and-soothes-the-skin texture; and how did they make a sunscreen smell more like a body lotion than a sun product?! How does Mario Badescu do so many things so well? This is another of their products that deliver. I need a minimum of a 30 SPF and this is the best of the lot I have used. Like mentioned before its fragrance is not that of a sun product. It has a very pleasant scent which is not overpowering but just right. You do not feel like everyone around you can smell the sun protection you have on. It goes on your nose so the scent is right there. Yet, I like it. I don't like the usual sun protection scents. This goes on extremely smoothly and my skin seems to drink it up -- and feels good. It moisturizes while it does its job. I will definitely be protecting myself while being moisturized with a very nice refreshing scent. This is a different experience from the usual sun protection products. I love it!!

This is a great moisturizer; the fact that we are getting the added bonus of SPF sends me over the moon. This is a thick rich moisturizer that really provides my skin a wonderful barrier. My skin is hydrated, plump and free from any flaking. I go overboard with my sunscreen application and this is no different. I apply about a quarter sized portion to my face and pull it down to my neck. This is unlike any other product I have used with SPF, I am not all greasy shiny, my skin actually looks ok without any makeup, not saying I would subject to the world to that but am just saying I could! My makeup goes on very well also, I have experiences no slippage. Can I be honest; I want this for my body, not just my face. You get what you pay for and so much more!

I've tried a LOT of sunscreens, I like the beach and I like the outdoors, and it seems that even when i slather on an alleged SPF 45, it is gone and i get a tan!!!! It drives me nuts. I tried this out not just on my face, but on my arms neck and shoulders when I was walking around all day in the city, only reapplying once to my face and shoulders, and behold... NO TAN, no sun, no damage, the sun just didn't get through this stuff. It's so much easier to put on than the other brands that are super thick and are all white and streaky until they absorb too. I really think this stuff is great!

I agree with everyone on this product. It is more like a lotion than a sunscreen, and it works so well!! I hardly noticed I was wearing anything under my makeup, and it was just so easy to apply. Generally, applying SPF to my face is my least favorite part of the process, but now I think it is just because I hadn't found an amazing sunscreen for the face yet. One of my friends gave me several samples of this cream. It is an extremely pale green cream which you can use over any red that you are trying to offset. I use green concealer so I know that green is used for the purpose of covering up red areas. I find that it blends in more than my concealers so that it doesn't cover as well. However, it does soothe the skin as it says while at the same time protecting it with its spf 25. In their line of products they carry spf 50 which I intend to investigate further. My only problem with this cream is its scent which is rather strong. It does die down a bit after a while. I am not sure how to describe it -- sort of like a medicine smell, perhaps. It is a drawback to me as I am using it on my forehead -- how much closer to my nose can I get?? - it is just too close to the old sniffer!! I would love to be able to continue to use it as it works wonderfully but the scent just gets to me. If there is a way to neutralize the scent that anyone knows -- please pass it along. I bet the scent would not be a detraction to many people. I am super sensitive to different scents.

I’m never entirely sure how to comment on the effectiveness of a sunscreen product especially when all I'm using it for now is when I go for walks, so I'll focus on its attributes. There are two things I love about this product: The texture of the cream and its scent. Whenever I buy a sunscreen product off the shelf, I usually don’t like how it feels or smells. This sunscreen has the delicate scent of nearing a swimming pool. By this I mean it gets me in the mood for fun in the sun. This pool scent (and I really do mean delicate) doesn’t last long and is quickly replaced by a clean, slightly floral scent. I’d definitely buy it.

I love this sunscreen, I have used it in the past, but I just got a sample to try again and I have to say I don't know how I ever switched! It is very light, soaks into your skin almost instantaneously, and leaves just the slightest hint of scent. I don't enjoy the scent of sunscreen at all, which makes it difficult for me to lather it on as much as I should with my super pale skin. This sunscreen might just take that issue away completely!

The New York Times had an issue last year which stated that a light cleanser and sunscreen was all one should need to keep skin healthy and young looking. While I'm not positive that is all my skin needs (I get very dry after I cleanse) I have been using this sunscreen basically in place of a moisturizer and I thought it worked great. My skin didn't feel dry, and it also didn't feel coated by a layer of film the way many sunscreens can leave your skin. I wore it to the gym and I couldn't even tell that I had anything on my face. SPF coverage is really important in any form of course, but this one is awesome.

I found this sunscreen to be a delight to use. It’s so easy to apply with a seriously quick absorption time. It does a have a very light scent that isn’t unpleasant and it doesn't contradict with the perfume I wear. One of the things I hate about wearing sunscreen is when I put my arm on the armrests in the car, most sunscreens leave white blotchy marks. I am happy to say this is the exception... it doesn’t rub off or stain anything. This is well worth looking into. I didn’t get oily or breakout after use...

I'm a sunscreen snob, and I approve of this product. I absolutely hate when you try to apply a sunscreen and it either absorbs so fast and oily you can't tell where you've applied it and where you've not applied it OR on the converse, it's so thick that it takes 20 rubs to get it onto each spot you want covered. This sunblock is neither of those things. It blends in quickly and nicely and has a soft almost not-there scent which is good for not mixing it up with my perfume, like Cityslicker said.

I've had the difference explained to me between Luca Sunscreen and other sunscreens on the market, and the difference is wavelength coverage. The way it breaks down is critical wavelength coverage is how protected you are from UVA rays. Luca Sunscreen provides the greatest critical wavelength coverage available anywhere. Add to that the fact that Luca is uniquely formulated to withstand six hours of exposure & I'm in! If you educate yourself a bit in the ways of sunscreen, you'd be surprised how many sun products that say UVA & UVB protection only protect you from the slightest bit of UVA- the rays that age! Add on to these facts the great texture, lack of scent and six hour lasting power and you've got a winner. I've started using it as my facial moisturizer (in the 30). Helpful hint: don't forget your decolletage & neck. They can give away your age just as quickly as your face!

Sheba says: This sunscreen does seem to be all it claims. That is important as I have a relative undergoing chemotherapy who was told to use nothing less than SPF 30 and to reapply every hour or so when outside. I tried this on myself and stayed in the sun for a several hours with no effects at all from the sun. It does have the six hour limit which is probably accurate. However, due to the serious side effects of sun on chemo patients I will have my relative reapply every couple of hours just to be safe. If it did not have the six hour limit I would have it reapplied every hour. This is such a bonus as this person loves to work out in the garden and has been very hesitant because of the chemo warnings. Thank goodness for Luca - it allows for a more normal lifestyle. Meanwhile I can use it for the six hour limit, myself. It is absorbed so easily that it is as though my skin is dry as a bone --and it wasn't at the time. This is a pleasure to use in addition to being just about the best sun block I have used.

Movie Maven says: Luca sells itself as a "sunscreen with moisturizer" rather than a "moisturizer with sunscreen," which I think makes it more effective in terms of sun protection than your run-of-the-mill SPF-included face lotion. As Hillary pointed out, the UVA protection is really what makes this stuff stand out from the pack; SPF typically refers only to the UVB protection you can get from a sunscreen. I did want to weigh in as a girl with an oily complexion to say that although this stuff seems a little heavy and greasy at first when you put it on, it is completely fine once it's absorbed (and as you know, you should always be putting sunscreen on at least 15-30 minutes before going out into the sun). So don't be afraid, greasy girls! You, too, can reap the benefits of Luca.

So, I really love this sunscreen. My favorite part about it is that at my store (Nantucket Natural Oils in Newburyport MA) you can have it scented with your favorite perfume. My other favorite part is that it is all natural, it's first ingredient is Zinc Oxide, which Hillary just posted about as being super important in sunscreen. It has a slight smell of all naturally lovely things, sort of like cocoa butter with green tea infusion or something. It also soaks in sooooo quickly, and doesn't leave you feeling yucky after you get it on, it is more like a lotion than any other sunscreen I have used. The SPF is 30, and it protects for about 4 hours each application (if I remember correctly from last summer). It is only about $17 for 8 oz., um is that not the best price ever????? Seriously, sun protection is so important, give it a try.

Beauty Advice about Sun Protection

I know I'm breaking format here, but I feel strongly that every woman who visits our site know this fact. There are only 4 ingredients that can adequately protect you from UVA rays (the aging kind) when used at the proper SPF level: titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, avobenzone (also called Parsol 1789 or butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane) and Mexoryl SX. One of these ingredients must be on the active ingredient list. I tell you this because I recently found out the face lotion I've used for years was not adequately protecting me from UVA rays. Your skin cream or foundation may say it protects against UVA, unless it has one of those 4 ingredients, it may be doing a very poor job of doing so. The spectrum of UVA light goes from 300 to 600. My old face cream protected me from 300-340. Leaving me unprotected against the rest of the UVA rays. Yet it says SPF 15 UVA/UVB. I hope this helps everyone to protect themselves.

Sheba says: What a convenience!!! It is such a clever idea and they work like a charm. As previously said -- you can toss a couple in your bag or car and you are set for the day. They are better and easier for applying the product than any of the regular packaging. The smell is clean and crisp. Sometimes you can get a heavy oily smell from sunscreens but this is completely opposite. The sunscreen is absorbed as you apply it and there is enough for you to coat yourself safely. It has to be mentioned again that there is no greasy or oily residue. They leave your skin feeling very clean -- but you know it is protected. The price for these is very fair for the protection and convenience.

Here is my holy grail of sunscreen! I used to use Skinceuticals and loved that till I had the chance to try NIA 24's. I love it and so does my face. I was used to the spf 45, but have been doing really well with spf 30. This goes on and initially feels greasy but it absorbs into the skin and feels weightless. It's amazing. It is very hard to use an spf then put makeup on over it...well, this has been my savior. I am on my 2nd tube and still loving it, it carried me through the summer. It's easy to reapply and isn't perfect at going over makeup but isn't terrible either. With the Skinceuticals, I couldn't ever do that. This has no scent and is wonderful with my sensitive skin. I love it and would pay double if I had to. I haven't ventured into trying anything else from the line. You will be amazed that it almost settles into the skin and feels powdery. Amazing. I am a huge spf lover and don't go out without it. Rain, sun, snow, you name it and I am still protected. I do my part in protecting myself.
